Question for girls who are thicker

most of the girls in my BP are thicker or a lil heavier than the average girl. what kind of dresses would make a heavier/thicker girl feel more comfortable? i want to make sure i pick a dress that the girls will feel pretty in.

i'll take any suggestions.....material....strapless, halter, spaghetti straps...etc.
thanks! (my dresses will be floor length)

Anything empire waist. Maybe something in chiffon. A fabric that isn't stiff.

I'm getting married in January and my BM's have chiffon dresses. They're also black. I suppose as long as it's not a light color and they're not going to be spending alot of time outside it's not a huge issue.

my MOH is + and she is wearing strapless satin dress (pics in album) and it looks really fantastic on her. i would say just avoid anything that is tight or clingy...a line would probably work well.

my BM dresses have ruching in the waist area that was very flattering on all of the girls. the seamstress also raved about that style. i have some pictures in my album.

satin isn't the most forgiving fabric, especially if it's fitted tightly, so something with a little more give and that is a bit more loose fitting might be better? or, you could ask them what kind of dresses they like or take them with you when you look and see what looks best on them?

I have girls of all shapes and sizes in my BP. The dresses they ordered are chiffon and not too form fitting. They are flowy so it gives everyone room to breath and move around

If they are busty, something that can conceal a regular bra is the best...IE scoop or v neck. Also a round or square neck with a cap sleeve. I would pass on strapless or halter.

Halter!! I makes my arms feel skinnier!

i would suggest something either chiffon or taffeta. not a fitting satin dress. i feel satin 'shows' everything more so.

I worked at a bridal shop and for heavier girls I used to recommend a euro satin or regular satin for a material... Chiffon can sometimes cling and taffeta is an iridescence and that can draw attention to the wrong areas... Definitely not a small strap because that can make someone look heavier (IMO, with my experience).. I would recommend an empire waist and not so much going on in the 'thicker' sections... Some rousing (cant spell) in the waist would also hide thickness.

This is a pic of mine b.c. a few of my BM's a little thick.. It looks wonderful on them!

I always thought satin was bad too, but if its A-line, its really good. I have BMs of all shapes and sizes, living in different places. I gave them the color and told them to go to David's Bridal and pick out whatever they wanted that was long and satin. I picked satin because there was more of a selection of satin dresses than any other fabric. They are all happy.

two of my BMs were + and they all wore the same dress from David's. it was a satin a-line with a rouched top and sweetheart neckline which i thought was very flattering on everyone.

Re: Question for girls who are thicker

I personally do not like satin- but as a broader/thicker gal I would prefer strapless as opposed to spaghetti straps. Anything v-neck is good- halter is ok, but personally not comfortable for me. If you are going to get a strap- I say go for a thick one- one that is almost like a sleeveless dress if you know what I mean. HTH

Re: Question for girls who are thicker

Hey...this has become my specialty as I have 2 girls that measured an 18 and two that measured a 16....def. not chiffon or a thin satin (Unless its a line)...those tend to cling and show bulging and dimpling (which I have as well and as a bridesmaid it was not cute)...My girls are also big breasted and what worked was a thick satin, sweetheart neckline dress...which was an a-line...check out album. The sample looked absolutely beautiful on all of them....

Good luck! Its hard to find something that works for everyone!

If you pick a darker color... I think you could get away with chiffon for february.. no one would see it. whats great about chiffon is that it is not shiny. the shine on satin and charmuese is what reveals all the bumps and lumps
or you can try a silk shantung or poly shantung.. it has nubs in the weave of the fabric and isn't shiny. also, i agree ruching is great to disguise figure flaws and not tight dresses.

Re: Question for girls who are thicker

I agree with wearing chiffon. That is what my gown is as well as the BM. You could totally do something like my BM gowns and even in the color. The dress is in my album but NOT in that color. I can't wait till they come in and I can post pics- b/c the detail is so much nicer in person than on the website pic.

look at davids bridal style F12495. It looks good on all of my girls.... it gave my size 2 girl a shape and my size 20 it hid everything becuase it doesn't touch the stomach. To make her feel even more comfortable shes wearing a sheer colored shrug to hide her upper arms.
