Question for girls with a natural curl to their hair....(pics of Hair Trial inside)

I went for my hair trial (pics at bottom) and I love how it came out .......but by the time I drove home, all of the curls on the side had fallen stick straight.

I think it's because she blew my hair out straight first and then used a curling iron.

Usually my hair holds a curl very well! (I will post pix of my natural curl in the next post).

So my question is:
Should I just start with my natural curl and have her use the curling iron over it? (i.e. instead of having her straighten it first.....I then probably won't get as smooth of a ribbony effect...but I guess that's a tradeoff).

**Has anyone else with curly hair done it this way? If not, how? (if you wore your hair mostly down).

I also thought about setting it in pin curls the night before, although it would stink to have to do that after the rehearsal dinner.

*Also, she used hardly any product in my hair. Nothing in it before she curled it and just some hairspray after.

--Should I scrunch my natural curls with gel first? Or would that screw up the effect of the curling iron?*

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Carrie Ann

p.s. I did go back to speak to the stylist about what to do differently and she was really no help. Every other thing out of her mouth is like, 'well, there's really nothing we can do about this or that.' She ultimately said to just start with my natural curl when I asked her about it, but she acts like she could care less whether it stays or not. So I'm also trying to find a new stylist.

I really love my girl, if you want her info!

I don't know what to tell you, though. I think you have beautiful hair, but I think someone else can do a better job with making the curls look more elegant and 'bride-y'. In all honesty, they look a little messy to me in the trial pics you posted - and that shouldn't be the case on your wedding day - especially with your gorgeous hair! I like the pics you had at the party better!!!

FM me if you want my girl's info! She works at the Cactus Salon in Syosset.

i have SUPER curly hair and when I go to get it done I have it dry and curly and thenwhen thy do it it becomes shiny and smooth becasue of the heat of the curling iron. Also, DON'T wash your hair before, the curl will stay better if it is a little dirty, not filthy, but like, wash it before the rehersal dinner and then just go there the next day, trust me, I have had bad experiences and good ones, hahaha good luck!

yes, you're right...I just would really like to wash my hair the day of the wedding!

I'm worried that if I wash it before the rehearsal dinner......by the time I go to that, sleep on it, then I guess put it in a shower cap while I shower that morning.......ny hair's going to be 'tired' and 'confused'!

It looks as if your stylist didn't put any products in your hair to keep the curl up for the whole day. did they?

no, she didn't put any product in it before curling it.

She did spray it afterward.

I told her to do it exactly how she would for the wedding because I wanted to see how it would hold up.

Does anyone know what product she should use before curling it??

I think that's the problem. She should've sprayed (at least) hairspray before putting the curling iron on, and then while the hair was wrapped on the iron, and then finally off.

The only way the curl will stay would be to have your hair a little dirty (washed no less than 24+ hours) and w/styling products (hairspray, gel, mousse, etc.)

Thanks Sarah! I FM'd you for the info.

Do other people think my curls in the trial look messy? Please tell me the truth------I can take it........I'd rather be told now when I can do something about it! TIA!

Beautiful Sarah! Thanks for posting... I checked out your dress album. It's gorgeous! Any chance you have any hair trial pix without the veil on?

Yes, it was damp that day. I'm trying to be realistic that it could be damp on my wedding day too, though, so I want to 'weather-proof' it as much as possible!

Is a 'pre-curl spray' a specific product-
-or-
are you saying she should spray it with hairspray prior to curling it?

(I usually just scrunch my curls with curl-up gel and that's about the extent of my knowledge of hair styling! )

they make this stuff that you can spray on hair prior to rolling it up [on curlers or a curling iron] to kind of prime it i suppose. it's not hairspray. that of course still gets sprayed on last!

GREAT! Thanks!!
Where do I get it? In the drug store or in a salon?

When you had your hair blown out- did they use a straightening iron?
I had mine blown out the day before the wedding, and the girl told me that I she wouldn't use the iron because then it would be impossible for the curls to hold with the curling iron. So she just blew it out with a brush and the hair dryer, and the next day the curls held the entire time.
When I had my hair trial, I was told to have it blown out first because then it would be a smoother look - not frizzy.

Hi-
good point. Thanks for asking!

She did only use a hair dryer and a round brush (not the straightening iron). But she did it right at the start of the trial, so maybe it was too drastic of changes for my hair to make all within an hour-----from curly to straight to curly again!
