I am having the HARDEST time losing the weight I have put on. I was diagnosed with hasimotos disease which causes the hypothyroidism. my levels are good now as I just had them checked a few weeks ago. I have started going to the gym and watching what I'm eating and i have GAINED 2 lbs Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can do.... This whole problem started AFTER I bought my dress so now I can not zip it and i'm afraid I wont fit into it

Re: Question for girls with a thyroid problem
i can't really help out with losing weight ... but i'm sure your seamstress let out the dress a bit if needed ... or you can try spanx or something.
best of luck to you!

Re: Question for girls with a thyroid problem
oh honey i feel your pain! I have hypothyroidism...diagnosed with it almost a year ago. I was going to the gym daily for 4 months straight and saw a slight weight loss (maybe 5 lbs). I have also changed up my diet in the past 2 months and have shown another minor weight loss (maybe 3 lbs). It is tough...i do not know if there is a solution out there. I take synthroid daily and my levels have been regulated but i still need the medication. My doctor said weight loss is going to be a looong process for me but it can be done if you stick to it rigorously. im on a low cholesterol diet which seems to help (because i also have high cholesterol). It has me cutting out a lot of dairy (i can email you the diet paperwork from my doctor if you want). plus i go to the gym 3 times a week (got disappointed when the 6-7 day a week routine showed such little weight loss for me so i cut back and am seeing the same results)
my only advice is to try to stick with diet & exercise as much as possible...and be patient!!! it is a slow process but you can do it.

Thank you for making me feel not as alone!! FH started going back to the gym and dropped over 5lbs w/o even changing his eating habbits and getting there 1/2 as many times as i go

I totally agree...you have to just keep fighting it. i was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (from hashimotos) when i was 8 so i went through what you are through most of my childhood. i was never really heavy but always kept on an extra 10 or so pounds that would never come off...it was only recently that i was really able to keep the weight down and a big part of that was keeping on top of my medicine...taking it regularly every day and having my levels tested often. if your meds are off, you will never feel or look right. you'll be fine! good luck =)

It is so unfair that men can go to the gym and in a week the weight is gone Sadly we dont get that luxury but you do have time before the wedding so just be patient and you will slowly shed the pounds. I weigh myself daily (prob sounds crazy) but this way it keeps me on track and if i see i wake up 2 or 3 lbs heavier than the day before i watch what i eat even more carefully that day and the next day. BC i think that is how the weight gain happened in the first place...i just ignored it til my clothing didnt fit then it was like sh*t too late time to shop for bigger sizes and the more you gain the harder it is to lose. dont be discouraged though...you are not alone! you will be a beautiful bride!!!

Re: Question for girls with a thyroid problem
I have had an underactive thyroid and been on synthroid since I was 9 years old.
I have been on Weight Watchers and that has always worked for me to loose weight. I strongly suggest it.

Re: Question for girls with a thyroid problem
I caught my Hashimoto's early and had maybe a 5 lb weight gain (4 or 5 years ago). I lost about 8 lbs before the wedding just watching what I was eating and going to the gym 3-4x/week. I did about 30 minutes weights, and 30 min cardio/day.

Re: Question for girls with a thyroid problem
I was recently diagnosed with hishimotos disease. You are not alone out there. Drink green tea if you can that speeds up the metabolism. And maybe your meds, if you are taking any need to be adjusted.

Re: Question for girls with a thyroid problem
I have hypothyroidism as well. I learned I had it about a year and a half ago. I take my Synthroid daily and I have been eating healthier. I started at 50 mcgs and now I'm currently taking 88 mcgs.

Re: Question for girls with a thyroid problem
I have it hypothyroidism too! Been taking synthroid for about years. Are you taking meds? its always great when the catch it early...low dose of meds etc. I have stayed within a 5pound range for the past several years. What helped me, not that this is doctor proven, was to stop eating red meat altogether and cut down on other meat products (chicken, etc). I have never felt more energetic!!! I also started exercising more regularly..not not to the extremes.
Hang in there....you will be fine!!!

Re: Question for girls with a thyroid problem
I know EXACTLY what you are going through. I was diagnosed w/ Hashimoto Disease this past Feb.. It's been very difficult for me to lose weight which causes me to get frustrated and stop sticking to any diet.
I'm actually going to talk to my doctor about this when I see her in a few weeks.... but, definitely try out what some other ladies have suggested...WW sounds like a good starting point. I actually know a few people who have had great success with it...you never know. I know it s**ucks, but try to stay positive ...
