Question for homeowners...

Question for homeowners...

...one of my coworkers has rented for about 15 years and she just moved into her new house this weekend that she finally purchased and my department wanted to get her something nice for her new house. She always rented a part of a house and basically took care of it so she has things like a lawnmower and barbeque, so we were trying to think of something other than a gift card. When you first moved into your house, what was one of the first things you needed or wanted or what was the best housewarming gift you received???

Well, I'm not sure how much you wanted to spend, you mentioned a lawnmower and such so I';m not really sure. But when I moved into my first apartment people bought me stuff like wine and liquor. Or a plant. The best gift that I got, (which I give to everyone now) was a big basket full of holiday decorations. For each month really, was a small decorative flag with flag stand, and also a little thing to put on my kitchen table. (example Easter was a bobble chicken jelly bean holder, for Halloween was a spider candy dish, for St Patricks day was a candle holder with shamrocks etc..) and also a kitchen towel for each appropriate month. I though it was such a great Idea!

I know you said you want to stay away from gift cards but since it's her very first house, what about a GC to Lowe's or Home Depot... for a homeowner, that would be extremely useful!

well, I try to look ahead. That way I can always buy stuff after the season on clearance. I just went down to ACMoore, and they have all their easter stuff on sale for 50-75% off. I bought two glowing egg candles. They were $1.75 each. I also take full advantage every time I am near a Christmastree shops. they have the best deals and have stuff for all seasons.

I love the basket for the holidays idea! Even one of those flag holders with different flags for each of the seasons/holidays...maybe that would be cute!
