When you have one child the car seat obviously goes in the middle but what have you done (or will you do) when it comes to 2 car seats? Will one go in the middle and one on the side? Or both on the sides? Also...if one goes in the middle, which one? The baby? I hate the idea of putting Lukie on the side when you think about how much safer the middle is but we will not have a choice when the new baby comes, there's only one middle. Curious what everyone else is doing.

Based on what ive seen out there with cars, it seems that they each have their own side.
My sister has a minivan so I cant use that as an example.
With one in the middle, I dont think youd fit another on the side.

Hmmmn...I didnt think of that. I thought an infant seat would fit next to a regular car seat but maybe you're right.
How does it work in a minivan?

my friend has 2 babies and their carseats are on either side of the back seat of her truck. I can't get over how much room they can take up! Even with her Mountaineer, she has to move the seat all the way up when the carseat is locked in place.

does the car manual have info on this? Our LATCH is on the passenger side of our car, not the middle. Perhaps the car manual can tell you what is best in your car.

I agree with Michelle31.... Check your manual. My son is in the middle the majority of the time...However- he is no longer in the infant carrier.. When I go shopping with my girlfriend- who does not have a car-- we put the kids on either side. The baby bag fits nicely inbetween both seats, and I drive a Saturn!
Actually once I had three baby seats in my car, two infants and a foward facing seat! That was interesting, but it did fit well! Good luck, and Definately check your manual!

Great suggestion, I will check the manual. Our car is a 2000 Explorer so there are no LATCH capabilities but the seats are pretty wide.

We've had 2 car seats from day one, so each has his 'own side'.
I think I heard you can have a dealer make a previous model Latch ready, but I'm not sure of the price.

You can also call the dealer and most will install LATCH for you free, or very cheaply.

The new cars that come equipped with LATCH have the connectors in all 3 locations - middle and right and left sides.

Claud --not all new cars have 3 --- I know for sure the Passat Wagon doesn't
As for the explorer--- my twin nieces had to be on either side--there wasn't enough room to put on in the middle (plus like you said how would you choose!!!!)
