I would love to incorporate my Puerto Rican heritage in my wedding, but being a newyorican I am a little out of touch.
I love that my reception hall offers food from my culture, which I intend to take advantage of and I will play some Spanish music of course.
I wanted my uncle and cousin to perform a routine on the congas, but is not looking likely and I cannot think of anything else.
What have you done or will do to ensure that you represent your culture?

Re: Question for my Fellow Latina Brides
if your budget permits you can add some food items...that is always a big hit.
Flowers - traditional to PR is the Amapola.. or even spanish fans.
Exchanging arras isnt really puerto rican... but something Spanish
almonds withthe capia
Do a danza criolla...

Re: Question for my Fellow Latina Brides
I'm Mexian and Puerto Rican.. oh and Irish
I'm going to wear a mantilla veil and have my band play salsa music. I would love, love, love a mariachi band at CH but don't think that will happen.
I would say the best way is with music and food. Or maybe name your tables after towns.
When I looked at flowerfields they told me one bride played the sounds of the coqui frogs which I thought was so cute and fit the tropical setting there!

Re: Question for my Fellow Latina Brides
definitely arras (the exchanging of the coins) and i think another tradition is having a laso or rosary that goes around both of you at the ceremony.
You can try to get a percussionist with the DJ....

Re: Question for my Fellow Latina Brides
I am Dominican, so is DH...we incorporated some spanish dishes in our cocktail hour, we had a merengue tipico band play at our reception dinner and it was a hit!!!!!! DH and I had 2 songs..the first one was a slow song by Michael Buble...and after we cut our cake, I changed into a white salsa dress and we danced to a Marc Anthony song...we also had a grooms cake made totally of Dominican cake! (A MUST for Dominicans of course and my mom is a baker)...on a more personal level, in my family we have a tradition where the mother of the bride gives the bride to be a bath full of red roses for good luck in her marriage..my mom did this for me..it might be a DR thing but I am not sure..if I come across a few more I will let you know....but if you def want to include your heritage in your day, I say go for it! it makes it even more special!!!!
