Question for petiti brides buying wedding dress...
went dress shopping and i love the look of mermaid style dresses. was a little concerned because i'm only 5'2'. when i tried on the mermaid style dresses, i was told when they cut off the bottom to adjust to my height, i would lose that effect of the mermaid style dress because most of the bottom would be gone. is this true? has anyone worn or bought a mermaid style who is short like me but has looked fine?

I am 5ft tall. I did not get a mermaid dress but trying on dresses was very difficult. A lot of the dresses I was 'too short for' according to the sales people. Even the one I bought had to be altered a little differently in the torso to fit me correctly. It all worked out though!

tech that is true... in the mermaid styles they grade out from lets say: 0 at the knee to 12 at the feet... if you are petite and you need to cut off 6 inches... that means you are only going to get the effect of 0 at the knee to 6 at the feet...
BUT... maybe if there is a seam at the waist there is some how to take it UP from the top and then a little from the bottom so you won't lose as much of the mermaid.
So really it depends on the dress...

I'm 5'4' and I wore a mermaid style. Here's a few pics. I did wear pretty high heels, but I also asked for it to be an inch off the floor, and most brides have it touching the floor, so that shortened it to as if I was 5'3'.
I think you should try them on to see. I thought it made me look taller.

Can the designer do a hollow to hem measurement for the dress? I had one done for mine. It was not mermaid, but it had a lot of beading on it that would have been lost since I'm only 4' 11'.
