hmmm...I know that you don't need to be certified...but my guess is that since there is a surplus of teachers right now that private schools have many certified teachers to choose from...
I would imagine you need a major in the subject that you want to teach

You do need to be certified to teach, but there are catholic school teachers who are NOT certified. They dont pay as good as a public school though.

Re: Question for teachers (highschool)...
I'm a Catholic high school teacher; I've been teaching for 8 years. I have a Master's in English Secondary Ed., but never got around to getting that certification! Actually, I only need the fingerprints, but just too lazy to do it! Anyhow, you do not need to be certified, but at my school, they do require you to be working towards it, and most if not all of the teachers hired do have experience in education or their subject area. I also echo the person who said we don't get paid as much...definitely true! Good luck!
Oh, and P.S. I just sent my resume out to every Catholic high school in the area and got a bunch of replies that way, went on several interviews, and here I am...

I think you might need to pass the LAST and the ATSW. Not too sure though.

Re: Question for teachers (highschool)...
Although I do not work in a Catholic school, I work in a private school, and I just sent my resume to EVERYWHERE I could think of, anywhere someone suggested, etc, and I got quite a few calls, and finally took the job that I have. I have to say, working in a non-public school is great. I have such freedom to do what I see fit, I can build my own curriculum and use my creative side to my advantage. Although I am sure the pay and benefits are MUCH better in a public school, I'm VERY happy where I am right now and wouldn't want to leave any time soon. So I would send your resume out (are you set on it being a Catholic high school? Because I can give you some places to send to if not...), and just be persistent. I found that these schools looked more at experience in your field over teaching experience. Although experience in teaching got me a little more money(HA! not like the more money really does anything, but hey, we do it cause we love it!) Good luck and let me know if I can help.
