Question for the MAC computer expert!

Okay,

Here's the question. We want a new G5 imac, but.....
In a few years they are putting the Intel chip inside the mac. I haven't read up much on this, but don't want to have to upgrade to a new computer anytime soon after we purchase the G5.

So here is our debate. Our piece of poop G4 is a lemon. We are having problems installing software now. I think the person that installed OSX on our machine just didn't do it correctly.

So our choices are to completely wipe the computer clean. PURCHASE OS Tiger and re-install all bootleg programs. and WAIT to buy an new computer.

or

BUY the Imac G5 and install all bootleg programs.

We cannot afford to purchase the programs. especially that darn QUARK for $950!!!!

I have nothing to say to help you, but I know your pain. We are in the process of looking to upgrade our Mac, but I have Photoshop, Quark, Dramweaver, and Director and they're all bootleg from my advertising days. I think my computer may blow-up one of these days, as it operates both OS X and 9...I'm going to have to do something soon!

Why dont you just get the new iMac and copy the files of the applications over?

You can't do this on a PC... but on a mac usually you can just drag the directory that has the application from one mac to another.

Because some of the programs that are currently on my P.O.S. MAC do not work anymore, because they are bootleg. Also the OSX that was installed on our current machine was installed incorrectly, now I CANNOT install any new programs.

There is nothing you can do about the bootleg programs.

They won't work on any MAC you use them on.

You have to decide if the programs you can still use... would work better on a newer mac. If so... then get the newer mac and move the files over.

OMG!!! Someone else that feels my pain with the old Quark!!!! I cant stand when my compt goes back into classic mode... but im too poor to buy a new quark!!! All my programs were give to me from when i worked in marketing and graphic design!!!

Why dont you wipe your entire compt clean, and reinstall whatever operating system you want yourself... it isnt too hard... my mac just nearly broke and I was able to figure out most of it myself... there are excellent tutorials on the apple site for trouble shooting... You can back everything up before you erase your drive... i believe you can burn your programs off too... I dont know if this helps or if it is just babble...
