Question for those NOT TTCing?

Question for those NOT TTCing?

How much have you and DH talked about kids?

Do you know when you want to start (if at all)?
How many you want to have?
Have you talked parenting issues?
Do you have names picked out?

DH and I have a boy name (Tristan ), we know we want two, we haven't pin-pointed a start time yet....and we have talked parenting issues a bit which was very interesting (example DH grew up in a home where everyone always walked around naked, I don't think it's appropriate, he thinks it's natural...interesting...)

Re: Question for those NOT TTCing?

we're not officially TTC yet...still plaing safe...

but we have decided we'll start in a month or 2. We've talked about parenting issues and what we expect of one another. We want 2, maybe 3 if we have 2 of the same (DH was the last ditch effort after 2 girls...soooo).

No names piked out specifically, but we would like to use Paul or P for our first for my grandfather who passed away in 2000. DH does NOT want a Richard ____ III. So we thought Paul Richard or Richard Paul.

BUT if it's a girl.....I don't know of any P names I like...

We talked briefly about it, he wants kids sooner, I want them later. I want to travel, finish getting my masters degree before I start popping out kids. I definitely want them, maybe 5 years after W day. HE is thinking 3-4 years after. We'll see about that

We both currently don't care for kids right now. Maybe 3-5 years down the road.

Fh and I have talked about it a lot. He has a daughter from a previous relationship and he really wants a boy next. I would like a boy, too.

Since we are in the process of buying a house and will be essentially strapping ourselves financially to do so, we have agreed to put off TTC'ing for at least the next 4 or 5 years. This will put me right in the high risk category when we are ready. So we have limited ourselves to one child.

We talk about it fairy regularly - not always serious sit-down converstations - but we talk about the furture and it always includes the 'kids'

Do you know when you want to start (if at all)?

About 2-3 years

How many you want to have?

we both agree that 2 is perfect for us

Have you talked parenting issues?

Yes and no - again, nothing too serious but we both grew up in very similar enviornments and we talked about what we want to do with our kids and how we want to raise them

Do you have names picked out?

Vincent John
Emily Rose

Re: Question for those NOT TTCing?

We are so far from TTC. But we have talked about it. We are planning on 2 or 3 (most likely 2) no names picked out, we dont agree on anything (the name thing is also holding us up on getting a dog!) And we have talked about parenting issues mainly because we have 3 nieces, 3 nephews and 1 on the way. So when we see something that our siblings do we will talk about it. We also talked about it when looking for houses. It came up a lot then.

I would like kids in 3-4 years, DH is more like 5 years +++ but thats more because he is a $$$ worry wart!

Funny story, this past weekend we were at a bbq and I was playing with a friends 3 year old! He and I were having a great time! And DH just comes up to me and says quietly, 'remember Kel, we want a dog, we want a dog' I was dying!!!!

Re: Question for those NOT TTCing?

We talk about it now and then.......we are getting married 9/05--so FH would like to not wait more than a year after that to start trying but he says that now.......you never know.

Parenting issues--well we hope to great parents and hope to not spoil our kids and make them brats --LOL--but we will probably both work--

I would like to have 3 (God willing)--not sure how many FH wants--I dont think it matters

Names....sure:

Anthony
Carissa (maybe a different spelling)

Yes, DH and I have talked about having kids- I'm going to be 29 and he's 33 so we don't have a lot of time left to mess around- no pun intended... We're waiting until I finish my MBA- we'll probably TTC my last semester (Jan 06) just after my 30th bday.

We have talked about parenting issues- mainly that I refuse to put my kid in day care- so it's been hard trying to figure out what we're going to do about $ and the like.. there's no way we can survive on 1 income- so I want to start my own biz (hopefully homebased).. thankfully I have an idea of what it will be and have a few professors to help me put my business plan together.

As far as parenting style- we pretty much agree that the way DH was raised was sort of crappy- and even though I come from a 'broken home' I have a much stronger family unit... we already agree on core values- we wouldn't be married otherwise.

We have names picked out- Madeline Margaret, Jack Clayton, and Paul Richard

We have talked about children. We would like to have 2. Probably won't start TTC for at least 1 1/2 years. We have a name picked out for a girl, Piper. We are very much on the same page when it comes to raising children. DH's only concern ( mine as well) is me passing on my issues. I think of food as the enemy. It is something that I have under control, but I still struggle sometimes. I just don't want to do to our child what my mother unknowingly did to me.

Yeah. I'm not anorexic(sp?), but I definitely have an eating disorder. My mom weighed herself everyday. She is 5'6 and if she weighed more then 105lbs. She would freak. If I got a little chubby, let's say up to 120-125 at 5'2, she would make comments. I am around 110 right now and feel enormous. DH has really helped me. He makes sure that I eat everyday. Before him I would go for like 3-4 days without eating. Now, I understand that without food my body is always in starvation mode and it holds onto fat. So, now I maintain a healthy diet and workout 4-5 times a week.

We talk about it a lot before we were married. We know we want a big family. He grew up alone (his dad has two older children from previous marriage). I love coming from a big family and couldn't image only having one child.

We plan to start in mid-late 2006 after DH graduates law school and takes the bar. We would like 3 or 4, he jokes around and says 8 when people ask! We have talked about our lives growing up and what we would do differently.

We haven't picked out names, but I like

Makayla Ann (DH's name is Michael and MIL middle name is Ann)
Alexandria (always like the name)
Nathan (always like the name - call him Nate for short)
Charles (after my grandfather)

quite a bit

Do you know when you want to start (if at all)?

It depends on where I get into Law School...... certain programs allow for one full year off with out penalty to start a family.

How many you want to have?

- one unless he has strong swimmers & he gets twins

Have you talked parenting issues?

to an extent... I am saving the heavy conversation for when we actively TTC

Do you have names picked out?

Yes, the iniitals are for our grandparents (and also the same initals as a friend we lost last Thanksgiving).

The biggest converation will be about raising a child. We also grew up in two very differnt households, and I think we both need to find a happy medium. It will be very very different from most (not all, but most) b/c when I graduate Law School, he will be the stay at home dad, for a while anyway. Hopefully we will have his custom hot rod shop up & running by then, so he will still be making an income.

BTW: I LOVE the name Tristan

Yes we have definitely talked kids and have known from our dating days that we definitely want them

Do you know when you want to start (if at all)?
Honestly if I got pregnant tomorrow I wouldn't mind But it looks as though we are going to actively TTC by the end of the year .. based on my medical history it'll probably take some time, and I'm on the older end of things so I don't want to wait too long

How many you want to have?
I'd love to have 3, but I'm not getting any younger and as I said its in God's hands.. so its likely only one or two (God willing)

Have you talked parenting issues?
Not really... though we come from very similar upbringings , stable families, and our family values across the board are on point.. so I'm not too worried.

Do you have names picked out?
Nope. For some reason I'm a little superstitious about this... I'm pretty settled with the fact that TTC for us is going to be rough , so I don't want to set myself up and think about a potential baby in terms of a name..

Re: Question for those NOT TTCing?

We have talked about kids a lot and while he wants them more than I do, I certainly want a couple of them. However, we have agreed that we would wait a few years. I am certainly not ready to be responsible for someone else's entire well being yet. I'm 26 and I told DH to talk to me on my 28th bday to see how I feel about kids then. Parenting is such a big responsibility and I still want my DH all to myself for a couple more years. Though I do look at the parenting board often and love looking at their little angels !!
