question for those of you that are having friday night weddings
So FH and I booked our church and im excited but the only time they had available was for 3pm
Is anyone worried that most people wont be able to attend bc of work? I was hoping for somewhere between 4 and 5, but theres already a wedding booked for 4:30..so im kinda dissapointed..also we are just having a ceremony so im thinking an hour TOPS and we'll be done with the church and pics there..my reception doesnt start until 7:30, is that too much time inbetween? (im getting married in wantagh and recpetion is in east northport)

Our main concern about Friday night when booking was about our guests as well. We have guests coming mostly from Queens and Brooklyn out here. Since we are getting married in July, we KNOW they'll be beach and Montauk traffic up the wazoo! So, we opted for a Saturday afternoon instead, assuring that we'd have all our guests for both. BUT, that was OUR decision..it's ultimately up to you and FH..if you guys don't mind the gap in time, don't worry about anyone else....just think, you'll have more time for pics! Go to OWB or someplace else if you'd like!

I really don't think you need to worry! everyone will take off that day anyway who wants to be there! Plus I was nervous with the 4-5 pm anyway because of traffic, so I'm not sure there is a win win lol... And the more time in between the more gorgeous pics you can get!

u know what that made me feel a bit better cause i was planning on just taking some beach pics..but now im thinking we prob will have time to take beach pics AND go to somewhere like OWB lol..at least theres one plus about having a lot of time in between! ha but it just stinks that i feel like not as many people will be able to make the ceremony..i mean i would assume that all close family will take off and we are both teachers and so are most of our friends..but im still a little worried!
*edited cause i guess u cant write s u ck s here lol

I'm having it on a Friday night also but we're having the ceremony at the place. You can try scheduling something in between if theres too much time like if someone has a big backyard maybe people can go there for a little while. A friend of mine rented the hall at the church and had some snacks for the guests to wait and kill time. Hope this helps!!

Good, I'm glad you feel better. For us, we have a lot of older people who go to bed by like 9 lol So we had a lot of things to take into consideration when choosing dates/days/times.

Re: question for those of you that are having friday night weddings
We're doing the same thing on the same exact day, lol... My ceremony will be at 3:00 as well, but I'm not worried at all. Most of my guests are from out of town so won't have to worry about work anyways, but if those that are in the area care enough, they will be there! If they don't, or can't get off from work... it won't be the end of the world to me! The wedding will still go on...
And I think the time space is fine.. I purposfully had my ceremony at 3 and the reception at 7 so I had enough time to get pictures done before the CH starts... I want to be able to enjoy every minute of my reception!

I agree - don't worry about the time of the church - whoever want to be there will be!
Our church is at 4 and we're not expecting a huge turnout, but we're expecting a good amount.
However, my brother got married on a Friday also and their church was I think at 4:30 and their church was packed! So you never know!

I think that kinda comes with having a Friday night wedding. Yes most likely less people will attend the ceremony than if it were a Saturday or Sunday, BUT the important people will still be there. SO don't worry about that so much.
And having a lot of time between the ceremony and reception is becoming more and more common because couples want to attend their CH, use the time to take more pictures, its not a big deal.

My ceremony will probably be empty, since Im having a Thursday wedding, but the people that will want to be there will get there no matter what. Me and FH will be taking our vows regardless of who is there. As long as him and the pastor show up Im good!

Re: question for those of you that are having friday night weddings
look at your guest list ..you may see:
a bunch of oot people (off from work anyway) a bunch of retired older folks (free) some stay at home moms (who will find after school baby sitter) some part time workers (who can easily ask off) lots of people who will not miss your wedding for anything no matter what they have to do to get there-its not like they ask off everyday! some others who will work half the day to make it by 3
that should be about half or a bit more of your guest list! ;o )
the rest will be there for the reception!!!
it will be a wonderful day !! no worries!!

Re: question for those of you that are having friday night weddings
ok im bumping this bc i just saw it.
You shouldn't worry at all and here is why, because regardless of what day of the week you have your wedding, guess what MOST guests don't come to the ceremony. I think alot of people forget that...i mean think about all the weddings we have attended, how many times do you go to the ceremony? many times most of us just go to the reception. And when you have attended the ceremony, usually a close friend or family member, have you noticed that theres not a ton of people there and definitely not most of your guests.
Your closest friends and family will be at the ceremony and they are the ones who will take off of work. Everyone else even if it was sat they just dont go.

This is very true. My wedding is on a Friday night. My ceremony is at 6:30pm, but thats because it is at the RH. Some people may even take off to be there. My friend is getting married on a Friday night and I took off work. It's a great excuse to take off especially for a summer wedding. Plus, Friday night starts the weekend and a lot of people don't mind starting it early
