Question for those that live in an APT

Question for those that live in an APT

I havent found our house yet, and we started TTC, now my question is, do any of you have babies and live in an APT or are TTC and still in an apt. I am worried because people are telling me its a bad idea to have a baby before we are in a house.

Thanks ladies.

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

I personally would LIKE to be in a house by the time we TTC but I certainly won't have that dictate when we have a child. I think it can be harder in an apt - not as much space, hiking everything up and down stairs or in an elevator, etc but I think it's definitely doable. We have a few babies in our apt and they seem to manage just fine

Edited to add: Good luck with TTC!

We don't have our own place yet, but we're renting a small (but comfy) one family home. I think you definitely need a place with enough room for a baby and you and DH, and all the baby things. But you don't necessarily have to buy a house before having a baby at all. Good luck with TTC!

Suzanne I say TTC....while it is nice to have a house, it's not always possible at the time...so why would you wait to TTC or have a baby? There are so many that do not have a home, or maybe even never will and they have done fine this far.

I grew up all my life in apartment living!

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

We are TTC and in an apartment and will be here for atleast one more year until the lease is up. We rented a large two bedroom though just incase we did become pregant that there would be room for the baby. Right now the future baby room is our office : ).

In an ideal world we would love to have a house before we have a child but that is impossible for the next few years (unless I hit the lottery) and don't see any reason to wait TTC : ).

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

Our lease is up in February and we will be TTC next summer. I would have loved to been able to afford a house soon but with today's house prices and the crap you get for your money it will be a while. I think we will be able to fit a little one in the apartment. I can't wait next summer!

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

We rent the main floor and the basement of a house.. there is an upstairs but there is a girl up there, I think the upstairs would be more suitable for the baby so i think when she moves out we could just go up... But we have a yard and a driveway and things.. I was just thinking financially..

thanks for all your responces!!

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

Life is too short to wait for the pieces to all be in place. Go ahead and TTC - as long as you and hubby are there, your child will be growing up in a mansion!

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

Suzanne I was thinking the same thing as you and even though this pregnancy sort of caught me by surprise, I was definitely not going to wait for the house to begin TTC. You just never know what happens. DH and I make a very decent living, but we're not ready to jump into the real estate market yet. I've lived in an apt my whole life, so having the baby was a bigger deal than having a home. I think the home will come in time. Good luck!

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

HUH, I JUST had to respond to this one. I LIVE IN A ONE ROOM APARTMENT...ONE room that's all. The only doors we have in the house are closets and bathroom.

And we do own a house but chose to sell it and get a nicer one and we are managing..we are a tight family

Yes the is limited space but we are comfortable and I would never have put off, having my daughter. We may be in this apartment for several more months but that's okay...we have what we need.

We are going to TTC even though we will not be ready to look for a house until May the earliest.

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

Our first little miracle is due to arrive in January and we are currently living in an apartment. Our lease isn't up until July... we've been looking at small houses, but we were going to move even before we found out we were going to have a baby.

Since we live in a building, I do forsee some issues with lugging a carriage up and down the stairs out in front of the building... even though it's a building with an elevator. The was I see it is that it'll be great exercise.

I'm looking forward to being a city mom... it'll be a challenge... but it'll also be fun!

Suzanne, if you're ready, JUST DO IT!

A baby in an apartment with loving parents is far luckier than a baby in a mansion being raised by the maid.

Suzanne
I have a cousin who waited to buy a house, then for the deck to be built, then for the kitchen to be done, then finally for the stairs to the attic to be installed. Our great aunt kept asking What is she going to do - Keep the Baby in the Attic!!!

I dont know if there will ever be a 'perfect time'. I you and DH are ready you will find a way to deal with a baby in an appartment and still buy your first home.

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

Suzanne, it really doesn't matter where you are, as long as you are together. I had kayla while living at home in a house and I think it was harder than being on my own. If you are comfortable where you are living then so will your baby. I wish you all the best.

Good luck TTC, you will be a great mother!!

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

I also think there are a few other things to consider- not just room.
If you are saving for a home of your own, having a child will make that more difficult in MOST cases. Babies cost money and daycare is NOT cheap (trust me, I am looking into it now).

But there is NO perfect time. I mean, most people never have enough money, enough in savings, the perfect house, traveled all over the World etc...so you need to figure out what the best time and situation for you and your DH is. There is NO wrong answer.

Re: Question for those that live in an APT

My husband's cousin said to me once you if you wait until you can AFFORD (whether financially or with room in a place) you will never have a child. I agree with that!
