Question for those who have been successful at healthy eating
How do you deal with going out to eat and parties at other people's houses? Do you try to eat only the healthy food or do you allow yourselves to eat some of the other stuff (like birthday cake)?
Also, after eating the 'unhealthy foods' how do you go back to eating the good stuff?
I am having such a hard time with allowing myself to eat a little bit of junk food every now and then. After eating it I feel like, 'what's the use? I might as well eat the rest of the bag of cookies'?
Re: Question for those who have been successful at healthy eating
I just do it! Sorry I know that doesn't help, I will tell you people will try to ruin it for you don't let them. I get 'you never eat' and ' I won't even ask if you want some' and things like that all the time, but its worth dealing with to be healthy and look and feel good!
I don't let myself really 'cheat' because I know for me it would start trouble, I have will power to stay away but I feel one bite will change it, I know I am probally too strict but thats just me. I just enjoy other aspects of holidays and special occasions and try not to let food be the focus.
If I did feel like I overate I would pump up my workouts that week and be extra careful with my diet.

I think that is what I will have to do- be really strict and not let myself have any junk food because I know everytime I eat even just a little I end up eating everything in the house. Thank you for your advice!

Re: Question for those who have been successful at healthy eating
I allow myself to slurge once in a blue and then i go right back to eatting healthy. I know how easy it is to fall into the habbit of eatting bad foods so i try to avoid that. I go out to eat all the time i just order something healthy such as a chicken salad, a piece of fish or something full of veggies. I have lost 30lbs since november and i have worked my butt off to do it. I know how quickly i can gain that all back so i am very stricked with what i eat. I do cave in at times and eat somethings that i shouldn't but i make a deal with myself when i do. What ever unhealthy thing i eat i go to the gym or for a run to try to make up for it, also i am harder on myself the following day to stay on track. My FH also makes it easy for me to stay on track because he is constantly complamenting me on how tight my body has become. I also have a nutritionist over my shoulder telling me what i can and can not eat. She's great. GOOD LUCK>

Re: Question for those who have been successful at healthy eating
I like the suggestion of making up for any slips in eating with more exercise.
Now how about if your husband does not need nor wants to eat healthy? How do you cook dinners that will satisfy his 'fatty' diet and your healthy one but without having to make a ton of food? I am thinking a good start for me would be to make a salad for myself as a side dish because you can make as little or as much as you want. What else can I do?
Re: Question for those who have been successful at healthy eating
Are you a good cook? I bet you could fool him, most low fat products are good tasting now so how about starting with substiuting low fat foods (like cheese) in recipes and not telling him?
You could also cook something 'new' and not tell him how healty it really is.
You can make one large portion of a healthy meal for you and freeze it in single serving sizes so that when he 'has to have' something really fatty you can simply heat one of the portions for yourself.
It is all a lot of extra work but it is worth it. and even if his body doesn't look like he 'needs to' eat healthy it could NEVER hurt for him too, he may be a healthy weight and still have health issues b/c of his fatty foods.

I have that same problem liqtny mentioned. . If I have a little it statrs a binge.. the last onr lasted for 5 months!
So it is easier for me to avoid, than to have just a little, but I am just starting to get bakc into that this week.
My skinny FH eats fatty foods, but gets full quickly & will stop eating, whereas, I'll keep going.
For meals, it is hard, but we try & get something in the middle of the road, & I'll try & eat more salad or vegetables.
Fortunately he does like healthy food, but he eats plenty of fatty stuff too.

Well, different things work for different people. What I do, is I eat very light and healthy all week, and workout in the am and the pm (I do pialites, treadmill, and some light weights). If I'm craving ice cream, or cake, I just put off having it until the weekend. Saturday, and sometimes Sunday is my 'cheat day'. During the week, I stick to low carb/ semi-low fat (unless it's 'good fat'). I cut out breads, and pastas. It takes a lot of dicipline, but it's worth looking and feeling good.

In response to he fact that other people are always commenting on your eating habits,-- that can be a very furstrating thing. I get it a lot, fom parents, friends, co-workers. Society promotes, and accepts that Americans like to eat high-calorie meals, fast food, and super-sized portions, so when others see someone eating extremely healty, or working out, sometimes they will comment. They say that they want to enjoy life, by eating the foods that they love. Well, to me I can't fully enjoy life unless I feel good about myself. My motto is,-- 'Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels'.

I do the same thing! I eat bad Sundays and during the week I eat low-carb and healthy. I work out at home also. I never feel guilty eating bad on the weekends cause I eat healthy all week. Good luck.

For the home workout ladies: What types of exercises do you do at home? Do you walk/jog/run for cardio? Exercise tapes or lifting free weights?
Just trying to get some ideas for what works best at home.

Re: Question for those who have been successful at healthy eating
As far as working out from home it takes one dedicated person to do so. I tried to work out from home awhile back and I found I was slacking with the amount of training I was getting. I would put in a workout video and find myself on the phone as I was working out. I walk at night with a friend of mine (One of my BM) then i go to the gym with my MH and i also train 3-4 times a week with my room-mate (GM). SO my BP is the reason i have stayed dedicated to the whole workout system.
As far as the earlier statement you made about eating good when your FH can eat bad. YOu would be surprised with what healthy things he would eat. For example my FH loves strawberry shakes, at night i make a shake with frozen stawberries, fat free vanilla yogurt and skim milk sometimes I add a banana. He loves it. Also invest in a bar-ba-que he can then cook steak and you can have chicken, it's so easy this way and usually my FH cooks dinner when it's on the grill. Good luck.
