DH and I are going in August to visit family and see Oahu! I have a question about flights though....
What times were your flights?
We don't know if it would be better to take the red eye out of NY and get to Hawaii early in the day or to fly during the day and get there later. The red eye is rough and we might not sleep (we've taken it before to CA) but we might not waste as much of the day. The flight back will be during the day.

I don't know about flight times - but one thing you may want to look into is flying through Vegas - when we were in Hawaii on HM, locals told us that Vegas is a big vacation destinatino for Hawaiians and there are prob much cheaper charter flights back and forth than going through Cali.

We flew through Atlanta (why, I don't know, but that is how they booked us). The flight left early in the am & we got there later. We were okay until that night when the jet lag hit us. It really knocks you out for a day or 2. Coming home we changed our flight to stay a day in Vegas.

We flew to Maui through Dallas. Our flight left JFK at 8 am. I think I slept the entire way, but we were both still pretty useless for our first two days. That's not such a bad thing when you can do nothing but sit by the pool and beach. Coming home our flight was great. We left Kauai at 10pm and flew through the night. It was really easy to sleep then and we had a full last day.
