Question for those who used to do BIG hair?

We're going to an 80s party on friday night. you have to dress in 80s fashion and all 80s music, it should be 'totally rad!' I want to do 'big hair' but never actually did it back in the day. If you did, please help with a few tips??
How long did you take to do your 'do? What kind and how much hairspray did it take? How big was yours,and how big was the biggest hair in your area?
Any tips, how-tos or 'big hair' memories would be awesome!

p.s. I kinda know how I'm going to do my makeup, but what makeup went with your 'big hair'?

Oh gosh!! Memories. I used to take a blow dryer and spray up 'wings' on both sides of my head. I would then spray the top of my head while drying it. It kinda looked like a box with bird wings. My hair spray of choice was rave pump(didn't want to hurt the ozone) # 4.
My hair was as hard as a rock!!

Makeup: a lot of black liquid eyeliner, pink blush and dark lipstick.

my 80's hair was layered and permed. I carefully blew out the bangs and top, so the bangs would be straight down and the top curled up and over, and the rest curly. I cringe when I see people walking around with that hair today. Stiff Stuff was the hair product of choice. I also remember using a lot of mousse.

makeup -- black eyeliner applied to the inside of the eyelid. white, glossy lip gloss.

I had that look in '88. I remember it was an acqua Champion sweatshirt with dark blue Esprit jeans and think slouch socks and Tretorn sneakers! But I didn't have big hair.

I was only 12 when I dressed that way but was copying the look from the girls by older brother went to school with (he's five years older)

Haaaaaaaaa that was my senior look!!!
I had champion sweatershirts in every color.

Those were the days. I could never imagine spending that much time on my hair in the morning now... I would never get to work!!

I used to have the white lipstick too!!

AHHHHHH the memories.....

I remember making wings on both sides of my hair, holding it out w/ the brush & spraying it with Rave (however, as I found out last night when FH needed hairspray, he tried the Aussie Maximum hold spray & it was like Cement).

I also remember blowdrying my hair upside down & spraying it like that.

In the 80's, it was a rare time I actually had any hair!!!

Please note that back in the day 'too big' was never 'too big'. So tease the crap outta your hair and make it real real high. And spray, spray spray!! Depending on how thin or thick your hair is depends on how long it will take you to do it.

Use a super hold spray though. I remember Stiff Stuff, that was the s&&T!!! Yeah, I think they discontinued that stuff.......LOL

As far as your make up, wear a lot of it. Colorful eye shadow helps, and definitely black eyeliner will go quite well with your big hair.......LOL Oh this will be so much fun just doing this LOL

What about clothes? Have you picked out your 80's outfit yet?? If you can, you should take a ride to a flea market and get jellies (remember those shoes) ??

Have fun doing this!

Oh, and if you have access to a crimping iron, that was really big too.
Lots' of hair spray and lots of teasing...
