Question for those whose DH/FH cook?

Question for those whose DH/FH cook?

Hi.

It seems as though more and more men are cooking nowadays.

I have spoken to many men that do cook trying to find out what prompted them to do so. Very few are cooking because they wanted to learn, or were taught by a parent and as a result so enjoy doing this. The majority of the men I spoke to say they learned to cook out of neccesity, i.e, parents never being home, being away at school, living on their own, or even having a wife who refuses to cook, so in a sense it was forced on them.

I guess my question is how and why did your man learn how to cook?

FH learned to cook from his grandma, not sure why.

I enjoy cooking. I never really learned from anyone in specific. I would watch my sister and my mom cook when I was younger, and I also watched plenty of the cooking shows on tv. I don't really think its too hard to cook. You just go by the recipe or venture out and create something new.

Just want to add I am not generalizing this is based on my discussions with various men, so I would love to hear other responses

FH lived by himself for a couple of years in grad school, and he quickly learned that a repertoire of ramen and bean burritos wasn't going to cut it. So he learned to cook. And he is really, really good at it, I must say - he's very creative, plus all his dishes have eye appeal as well - he's into presentation, whereas I pretty much slop things on a plate.

I'm so lucky!

FH grew up with a father who was always away at the firehouse so he had to learn to cook in order to eat!
Now that FH is also a fireman, he cooks at the firehouse too...I don't know what it is about firefighters and cooking!
I love it, he is such a great cook!!

Not sure really. I think it's just a born talent. All I know is he practically makes us dinner every night and doesn't mind either. Gotta say he's better at it than I am! Gotta say he's great at breakfast too

His Father & Mother ran a Resturant, both cooking there
His Father still does in Pennsylvania (he runs a few places)
His Grandmother used to cook for the rich in the UK (in house cook)
His Grandfather did the same (in house cook in the UK)
His Grandmother & Grandfather came to the US and cooked here as well.

Jim cooks! Heh
God bless him for it.

Since we live with this Grandmother & Mother, I don’t cook. I love to cook and this is the hardest part of our situtation right now.

he learned from his mom a little before he left for the military and then learned the rest when he was in the coast guard on his own for 5 years.

DH's mother is WELL known for her cooking so he picked up on that while at home. and then living in the city for 6 years made it a necessity, but he enjoyed it and got so much fame for his food

DH's Mom made sure her 6 sons could cook. They dont know how to clean but they can cook. DH liked to cook so much he started doing it professionally. He has since changed careers. When he cooks at home he still thinks he has a staff behind him to clean up.

Gary cooks because he is home first!

Actually, his Mom cooked out of neccesity and never really enjoyed it...my brother cooks because I think he got the love of it from my Mom. So it works both ways I think. We love to eat and we enjoy cooking together. I know, I have it good that he likes to cook!

Keith lived on his own for a long time and I guess he just learned how to cook because there was no one there to feed him! But he really enjoys cooking and he has created some of his own recipes. The man thinks he is Emeril. He loves to watch Foodtv and I swear, he actually yells 'Bam' when he is cooking

ETA: In my house who ever gets home first does the cooking. He has some friends who will wait for hours for their wives to come home and then ask them what is for dinner the second they walk in. I wont have any of that.

My FH's dad used to be a chef (before he became a police officer) so FH grew up trying things out with his dad and learned to love cooking and experimenting that way. When he lived with roommates - he had one that loved to cook too, so they would cook big dinners together a lot too!
I cook - but he does most of it - I'm lucky!

FH is a creative person. I think that for him(actually me also) cooking is a creative outlet.
