higher pain tolerance?
Seriously.. I had to go to a dermatologist (sp) cause I bit my lip so hard once I scared the lip and they had to remove it.
Before he did, he did a full body check.. fine no biggie.. He saw the tattoo and said 'Oh, so you should be ok with this'
OK with this??? Uhmmm NO NO NO NO NO and HELL NO!!! as he sticks a NEEDLE into my LIP!! i wanted to scream but held real still.
Dude.. a tat does NOT mean I have a high pain tolerance.

I hate needles. I hate hate hate them. I cringe and cry like a baby when I see them. Giving blood I am not kidding I faint.
My doctor always says to me 'why are you such afraid of a little needle, you have tattoo's'
Um so what is that suppose to mean. I cringed when I got those babies. They hurt. They bled, I was uncomfortable for a few days b/c of their location.

i got this comment from my mom when she questioned me why I never give blood, or whenever I have to get a needle for medical reasons....

Different kind of needle. Different sensation. My tat didn't tickle, but it did hurt less than a needle at the doc.

I don't have a big problem giving blood or with needles, but I thought getting the tatoo hurt like crazy. My friend went first and said it wasn't really bad, and when I went, I was yelling at her for lying to me. But, after it was done, it didn't bother me at all.

After I got my tattoo I realized I have a higher threshold for pain than I originally thought! But you can't always see my tattoo so people don't really make that assumption...

It all depends on the place the needle is going and how many nerve endings are there.
I am ok with needles in my arm or the back of my hand. God knows I had enough of them stuck in me when I was in the hospital a few years ago. Then I had to go to dermatologist over the summer to get a cortisone shot for a big pimple on my chin that would not go away. omg it hurt so much I cried!
and when I was in the ER before being admitted to the hospital a few years ago they had trouble finding veins in my arm and tried to do the needle in my foot. OMG the worst pain ever imaginable. I nearly kicked the intern doing it.
so it all depends. Besides while I don't have a tatoo - I had considered it awhile ago but decided against it - I had the guy let me feel how the gun felt without any ink in it. It's not that bad.

Persoanlly i used to say i have a high tolerance to pain. And to some extent i think the guys/gals who have these HUGE tats on their back, under their arms, in areas that are just down right painful...well yes i think they do have a high tolerance to pain. I have a rather small tattoo and was shocked what little pain it was. BUT there are parts on the body that getting a tattoo on is very painful.

Yes, and yes.... people think I have a higher threshold for pain and they're right! I'm very good at blocking it out.

My first tattoo on my left ankle when the guy started I said well this isnt so bad, but then he hit a spot that really hurt.
My second tattoo on my right ankle didn't hurt that much
My third is on my hip hurt. Not all of it, just some parts hurt more then others.
The one on my lower back, when he did it in the middle that didnt hurt. When he went outside and on the tips of the flames that hurt. It felt like someone was taking a razor blade and dragging it over my back.
Some parts of my tattoo's I didnt even know he was doing work on me and other parts I thought I was going to cry.

i can't stand mouth pain, like getting a filling done at the dentist. and it isn't so much the pain, b/c you get novacaine, but the thought of the drill wigs me out entirely. my tattoo is on my lower back and supposedly that is one of the worst places to get one because the skin is right on the bone, but my guy was cool...he paused every thirty seconds or so before he started up again. after the first few minutes i got used to it. it didn't tickle, but i would no doubt get another one. fh thinks i am a wimp, but i'm really not. i don't like certain pains...no tooth pain, no knee pain, i don't like stomach cramp pains, nothing internal like that. i can handle muscle pain and bumps and bruises, but not organ pain, if that makes sense. it's also different if you inflict it upon yourself, like ripping a hang nail or tweezing. you have a different mind frame to handle it.

my pain tolerance is high.. I just find it odd they assume it so.
The cortisone shot I got to my shoulder felt 'werid' I could hear the needle squeak as he pulled it back out and it rubbed cartilage.
I don't mind giving blood for tests but honest freak just a little when Im hooked up to a tube (IV) and i HATE them on the back of my hand. It always creates this HUGE bruise.
I hate getting shots tho. I dont like the feeling. But let me tell you.. your lip.. IS SENSITIVE!! Sticking a needle into it is NOT fun neither is watching him as he takes a scapel to it.
I deal with pain and I guess I just don't whine but it doesnt mean I dont FEEL it!!
My tattoo felt like a mesquito bite.. Itchy irratting.. that's all. I had the dragon done first.. when back for the black.. the Black part hurt like a son of a #itch! I guess my arm hadn't really healed. *shrug*
