Question for Web Designers (Or people who have built websites)
My friend has a website and she recently changed the web address. Apparently everything has been done on the server side to make the IP addresses the same for both sites, but she's trying to work on getting the redirect to work. So, for example, if her old site was www.tree.com and the new site was www.bird.com, now, if you go to tree.com, you'll automatically get redirected to bird.com, BUT the address in the address bar still says tree.com, and she wants the address bar to display the new name.
Does anyone know the extra step to do this? She mentioned something about attaching a certain file, that she was given, to the 'www' directory- does anyone know what this directory is?
TIA!

Re: Question for Web Designers (Or people who have built websites)
it can take 3 days (i think) for the companies to update there DNS tables.... (DNS is the domain name service - there are 7 of them that maintain all the webaddress, your host, lets say cablevision well quickly go out and see that www.tree.com is 34.53.213.123 and return you to that address)
let me know if i didnt answer your question cause i'm kinda confused from your post

Re: Question for Web Designers (Or people who have built websites)
Thanks for your help. After some more investigation, I realized that the guy who had been doing her web maintenance was doing some funky things with her site to get it working correctly, and it was easier to just let him finish than to get involved. I appreciate you answering!
