We are in the process of planning Nicky's christening. Patrick and I have many social drinkers in our families, and I personally have never been to a party where alcohol (beer and wine at the very least) wasn't offered.
That said, I was recently told that having alcohol at a child's party is the epitome of tacky.
I tend not to agree with that, as the ADULTS will be the only ones drinking (obviously), and there will be more adults than children in attendance, but I don't want to commit a major social error.
What's your take? Booze or no booze??

BOOZE
I've never heard that before. I've been to plenty of children's parties/christenings where alcohol was served.

ETA: BOOZE!
Actually I never heard that alcohol should not be served at a childs party, unless of course its a B-day at McDonald's but then again I'm no Miss Manners!
I, personally, would serve adult beverages at a Christening or 1st B-day, etc. (unless money was an issue), and have not been to any that didn't.
And to be honest I think most people would find it out of the ordinary not to have the choice of being able to order a cocktail.
It's your family/friends do what makes you happy!

BOOZE BABY BOOZE!!! Who the heck said that??? I'm having booze at my party on Sunday -- beer, wine and soda -- and the main reason why we picked this place was because it was included so that the bar bill wouldn't be so much. And tell the people who said that to go scratch!!!!!

Booze!!! I don't know if it needs to be limited. I think adults can choose what they want to drink.

Re: Question for ya...
I think at a childrens party - maybe no booze...but a christening is really for the adults...booze all the way!!! (if he cries...some people may need it j/k)

Re: Question for ya...
Stacey, we haven't committed to a date yet. We are still waiting for Patrick to get promoted, and don't want everything to be the same weekend.
It'll most likely be in mid February.

Re: Question for ya...
I procrastinated and then all of a sudden it was December When Deb posted that Gianna Christening was this Sunday, I made sure to call the church this week. Also it is on the 25th because that is the break between the playoffs and the Stupidbowl. When I gave Steve the 2 dates (11th or 25th) he said 25th because it gives us more time to prepare. Yeah right, my Dad was like Woo Hoo we don't miss football

Re: Question for ya...
I plan on offering beer or wine at Molly's christening but I am going to just run a tab and not pay the per person price. The per person price was like $10.00 plus the extra on the tax and grat. and so many of family and friends will not even have any alchol so it is better for me to pay per-drink.

Re: Question for ya...
I've never heard that, but I am sure they mean child's birthday party, not a christening. However, even at one of those, if there are a bunch of adults there, I do not see the problem, unless, of course, it is at Chucky Cheese.

Re: Question for ya...
I have been to quite a few christenings this year and they always had alcohol served. It seems people dont have as much to drink at christenings though, than at say weddings. Maybe like Michele31 said, you would be better off paying per drink if you know your family and friends wont be having alot.
