Question for you all from Dear Abby-

DEAR ABBY: My boyfriend, 'Oscar,' and I have been dating for more than two years. In the last few months, we have begun talking about eloping, but I have reservations because I have never been introduced to his parents, who live out of state.
Oscar's parents are not financially able to visit us, so last year, he arranged to have us visit his parents over the holidays. However, the plans mysteriously unraveled.

I have asked Oscar several times if there is something that he is afraid to tell me, but he insists that he is merely unconventional.

Am I right to be worried? Or am I just being paranoid? -- FRUSTRATED IN MARYLAND

DEAR FRUSTRATED: You are right to be worried. When you marry someone, you also marry his or her family. Make no more commitments until you -- and your family -- have met Oscar's family. It appears that your 'unconventional' boyfriend has something to hide.

So my question for you all, is would you marry a man if you never met his family?

In my DH's case probably!

No. I would think he was trying to hide something if I could never meet his family.

You marry a person, you marry their family...I'd NEVER marry someone without meeting their parents!

Maybe an unconventional guy would like an unconventional girl. Have the girl invite the parents to the bf's house- then you have something

I would never marry someone without meeting his family.

There is just something too weird going on that she has never met his parents in the 2 years they have been together.

My FI has not met my Mom however he has met majority of my family here in NY. My mom lives out in Houston and we are not close at all. She is aware that I am getting married and will be attending the wedding.

I am a little bias with this issue BUT i feel it is important that your FI meet your family- at least the ones you see on an ongoing basis. As to meeting my Mom, it would be nice for them to meet before we get married but she has a very little role in my life and my wedding planning.

I would never marry a guy without meeting his parents and I would go even further to say that I would not continue to date a guy without meeting some of his good friends. I know from talking to friends that if a guy really likes a girl (and vice versa) he will want everyone to meet her. If he is hiding you or your relationship, there is something fishy going on

DH & I decided to get married very early in our relationship. But, I wouldn't agree to marry him until I met his family(They lived in London). They were wonderful people and if possible made me fall even more deeply in love with DH.

No I would not marry him if I never met nay of his family. I am sure this guy is hiding something from her. She should go with her gut.
