Hi ladies, I was wondering if you could help me out. My cousin got engaged a couple of weeks ago and is having an engagement party in 2 weeks. Money is tight and I can't do anything big, but would like to give them something useful/creative. They already have been living together for some time, so I doubt they need any house stuff, and as far as I know there is no registry. I'd really like to give an actual gift instead of money - does anyone have any suggestions?
TIA!!

Re: Question from an old married lady
someone gave my sister a gift basket from one of the wineries (pugliese I think. They show them on their website). It was hand painted champagne glasses w/ the hand painted bottle of champagne w/ their names and wedding date. She also gave them a small wine rack to go w/ it. I thought it was a great idea.

i got one of those BIG picture frames with teh BIG matting from FBIL's gf. she already enlarged and frames a pic of us, and brought markers for people to 'sign in' at the party.
it was great!!

What about a gift certificate for a dance lesson?
Do you know where they got engaged? Maybe give them a gift related to that location. For example, Ghiradelli chocolates if they got engaged in San Francisco, Long Island related stuff if they got engaged here ( a bottle of LI wine, North Fork Potato chips, etc.).

I like the idea of tickets to something..
or a gift card to dinner.
I would love something like that right now - I feel like I never go out anymore because I have to save every penny for the wedding.

THanks everyone!
I don't know them very well, he is my first cousin, but we don't see each other too often. I think the last time I saw them was at my own wedding 3.5 years ago.
I think they got engaged in the city, where they live. I am thinking I like the wine gift basket idea!

Re: Question from an old married lady
My suggestion is similar to the wine baskte. It´s a gift somone gave my sister. I tried calling her but she didn´t pick up. I know it was a few bottles of wine. One represented their engagement, one their wedding, one their one year anniversay, one for a special night. I think basically you can make up what you want. The person didn´t have much money so they weren´t expensive bottles of wine but each one had a poem or nice saying attached to it. It was a plain basket and she decorated it with some ribbon. and she also put wine glasses. I thought this was such a cool gift.

I agree. FH and I purposely didn't register before our e-party bc we wanted the cash babyyyy lol. We've been living together for 3 years and don't need a lot of house stuff. The cash, however, is always helpful when planning a wedding/HM, etc.
I know some people are not comfortable with giving cash, so you should go with what you feel is right.

Re: Question from an old married lady
Something lenox for the wedding? Personalized Lenox cake topper? (Thats what my aunt got us and I LOVE IT!) Or maybe toasting flutes, or a picture frame?
