Hi all, before I move in I want to paint everything over....Has anyone ever painted over their kitchen Cabinets? If so please tell me what the process is, do I have to buy a special paint, do I have to sand stuff down and primer? Is this a 'don't' instead of a 'do'? Right now they are a glossy off white and I would like to make them a Flat white ... mainely to remove the 1980's glossy look...
Thanks Please post all opinions, I can take it

Re: QUESTION: Has anyone ever painted over
Depending what they are made of, I know that it is possible. I know that in my laundary room and screened in patio I have cabinets that match my kitchen and the previous owners painted those white. Sorry I don't know the process but I do know you need know what the cabinets are made of.
Good luck!

Re: QUESTION: Has anyone ever painted over
if there solid wood it should be fine especially if there painted a light color you might not have to strip them. but if there a laminate color that will be more difficult because you will have to sand the finish first to get it rough so that it can accept paint otherwise it will just peel off. most cabninets have at least wood doors so check the sides of the cabinets that are the end of each row because thats usually where the laminate sides are.

Re: QUESTION: Has anyone ever painted over
we painted over our dark nasty wood cabinets in our kitchen and it made a huge difference!!!
what we did was we sanded down the surface of the cabinet, and then primed them. then we painted over them. it was simple...and it came out great!

i wish we could- but we have a laminate on ours right now and apparently, you just can't paint them... so we have to wait and get new doors put on!
