Question of the Mommies

Question of the Mommies

The one thing that is freaking me out more than anything is holding my little peanut when he/she is first born. They are so little and scare the crap out of me. Can anyone say that they are like me and that it's ok when it's your own baby????

Sharon please help!

First off, babies are alot stronger than you think and you are NOT going to break them . It is alittle scary, but I know for me that as soon as I heard both Scotty and Cassidy cry, the first thing I wanted to DO was hold and comfort them. Your mothering instinct just kicks in and takes over.

I know it's intimidating, but all I can say is holding your baby for the first time is such a magical moment and try not to let your fears overshadow that.

You will do JUST FINE

Do you ever watch a Baby Story on TLC? That helped my DH alot - he was just as worried. But when you see the way the doctors and nurses just pick them up and toss them around so to say, it makes you realize that they're not really as fragile as we're led to believe. I'm sure you will just 'know' what to do as soon as your baby is born!! You'll be a great mom!

Oh Jaime, you will be fine. It's true what the other poster said, once you hear them cry, something in you kicks in and it's like automatically you know what to do. My dh was great because I was so sore and hurt from the tear, he basically fed her throughout that first week and helped me out a lot.

I did feel the same way with my son - I was so scared - but when he came out, I think my maternal instinct kicked right in - because nothing was stopping me from taking him and holding him! You will be fine!

Patrick was the first baby my husband ever held. He was SO nervous. But, as the other say your parental skill just kind of happen & he was comfortable holdong him within minutes.

I had never held a newborn baby until Jack was born...but right away you will just know what to do. And watch as the docs and nurses suction him and get him ready in the warmer....they are not the most gentle. Babies are pretty strong. Just think of all the trauma it must be being born! Once they are out, nothing can be that stressful!

Let me add that Cassidy was also the first baby that Jim held...he held her before I did, changed her diaper before I did...and since she's been born, I still have a hard time getting her out of his arms

Re: Question of the Mommies

I was too and I told you the story about the first time she pooped, right? I didn't have a choice because the nurse gave her back to me

You'll do just fine. I was ultra paranoid about her little head/neck but they are more resiliant than we think. It's just like holding a baby doll. I have some Cabbage Patch preemies I could bring by for you to practice on!

Natural instinct will kick in, don't worry. And then you'll be an old pro!
