My coworker is going to an 'engagment party' next Saturday. The whole party was planned as an engagement party weeks ago, but the groom's mother was terminally ill so they decided to have a small wedding in California, so his mother could seem them get married. They plan on renewing their vows in 2008 and having their regulary scheduled reception.
My coworkers questions is this... Does she give them a larger wedding present now, or give them something smaller now and give them a larger gift for the regular reception in 2008?

Re: Question on behalf of my coworker
Wow, that's a tough one. Does your coworker know anyone else that's going? Does she know what anyone else is planning on doing?

Oh, and does the couple have a registry? They may not, which would be a big tip off.

Re: Question on behalf of my coworker
Are other co-workers going? If so, can she ask them how they are handling it?
This is tough....

hmmm I think she can do it which ever way she wants. I dont think it matters- they will appreciate whichever way they decide.

The couple does not have a registry they were only engaged for a few weeks when they got married.
Also its her boyfriends grandaughter so she feels foolish asking him. She is 80 years old, and she is always worried about what people will think.

To me, if they don't have a registry, they aren't looking for big wedding gifts. JMO!

Considering they don't have a registry and it is last minute, she can give what she feels is appropriate. I'm sure they'll appreciate whatever she gives them.

Personally I think a smaller one now...and the bigger one later....
