Question on blocking hotel rooms...

Hi ladies - Iwas just wondering how you decided how many hotel rooms to block for your OOT guests - did you just estimate? Thanks! :o)

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms...

Book more than you expect to use. We originally only booked 10, which was more than enough to accommodate OOTs, but then a bunch of people from nearby decided to stay so I added to the block, as well as a bunch of morons who waited until the last minute and then the hotel was sold out and I could not add to the block anymore.

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms...

I'm having the same 'blocking issue'. How far in advance did you block the rooms? Did you have to put down a deposit or charge your card?

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms...

You should not have to put a deposit down. Most places tell you that they will release the block a month before the event.

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms...

We were told the max to block at one time was 10 rooms, after that you had to use a credit card. I wouldn't go with a hotel that needed a credit card.

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms...

We are unsure as well. Lots of people (aparents of young children) are coming from 1 hour or two hours away. They very well might go homedue to babysitters and the expense.

We decided to furdge our rsvp date for our invites and the hotel deadline. the hotel wants to know 1 month before our date but I'm telling everyone that they need to book 2 months before. IMO if they wait until the last minute they can stay with someone else on LI or another hotel. I'm not worrying about it.

Yeah, what % of oot guests get hotels?

I'm right there with all you ladies--my fiancee and I estimate that at least 100 of our 160+ guests will be from out of town (3+ hours away)....how many rooms should I block then? There are 2 hotels in the area and I would like to block rooms at both, just to give some options, but I have no idea what % of out of town guests stay together, find other alternatives, etc.

I think you should assume that most guests will end up staying. Block more than you need... I booked at the Hyatt Windwatch and I think if I blocked 30 i had to guarantee 10, something like that.

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms...

The place where my guests are staying they told me I had to block a minimum of 10 rooms. We are ending up having about 20 rooms. They held the rooms in the block until a month before the wedding and if they book before that date, they get a special price.

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms...

I just wanted to say thanks for your responses. I think we'll block 15 for now, and see if we need to add more later.

Re: Question on blocking hotel rooms...

i had to book 60 rooms at the Melville Mariott - and i had to guarantee 30 of them - if we did two hotels it would not have ben as bad- but we are hiring buses so we did not want to have two hotels

watch out for hotels that require two night stays - i think it is a new policy at the Hyatt Windwatch - they also wanted me to guarantee 90% of the rooms if i had over 30 and that was too high
