How far in advance do you suggest booking hotel rooms for your OOT guests. The RH Im using recommended a hotel nearby which runs shuttles to and from the RH if you guarantee 10 rooms. We will certianly need at least 10 rooms, so wondered when I should be contacting the hotel to arrange this. Any thoughts?

Re: Question on booking rooms for OOT guests
My wedding is 1 year and 2 days away ( ) and we blocked our rooms off on May 16. I'd say a year in advance is good. I wanted to get mine done by the one-year point because I wanted to be able to put the info in with some of the STD's.

Re: Question on booking rooms for OOT guests
i blocked off the rooms as soon as we booked the RH. we started off with 20, so far 9 rooms are booked...the invitations go out today so chances are we might need more than 20. I will call and add more as we need them

Re: Question on booking rooms for OOT guests
I blocked rooms for my 2011 wedding already. I wanted to get 2009 rates. I also wanted to give my OOT guests more than enough time to budget their money. 90% of my guests are from out of town. Most hotels recommend 1 year in advance

Fantastic, thanks for the great advice.
One more thing, Did you have to put down a deposit when you blocked off the rooms?

Re: Question on booking rooms for OOT guests
My wedding is in January and i just blocked the rooms a few weeks ago. She said u can do it up to a year. I think some places will make u leave a deposit, so make sure u ask first. I blocked the courtyard marriot in melville, you dont have to leave a deposit and they give u a free shuttle for the guests if 10 rooms are booked.

I blocked at the Four Points Sheraton in Plainview. Over there you can block up to 15 rooms each day without having to guarantee anything. If you block over that, you have to guarantee the extra rooms. So I blocked off 15 rooms for Friday and Saturday night and I didn't have to pay for anything. If my 15 rooms book up, I can add on to the block later on.

Re: Question on booking rooms for OOT guests
Some hotels will not block the rooms more than a year in advance because the rates dont come out earlier than a year for many hotels.
As far as a deposit....it depends on the hotel. I blocked 10 rooms and had to guarantee 2 of them which to me wasnt a problem since we ended up needing almost 20 rooms.

Re: Question on booking rooms for OOT guests
I blocked rooms as soon as I had my RH and good idea of a final guest list. I would do it as soon as possible - a year in advance or more!! Hotel rooms go FAST!
