Question on story THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Does anyone know what

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle means?

I looked up thistle and it says

any of various prickly composite plants (especially genera Carduus, Cirsium, and Onopordum) with often showy heads of mostly tubular flowers; also : any of various other prickly plants

But it doesn't make sense?????

I always pictured it as the seeds of a dandilion head blowing away...

I think it means that when the thisle down flies through the air it is quiet, just like santa's sleigh.

That's what I'd always thought it meant.

OOOOOOOO, So the thistle down is really like the dandelion when it turns that feather like thingy, and you can blow it away quietly? (like santa flying away quietly)?

Im no thistle expert, but I just figured it was the poofy white stuff because it sorta resembles goose-down (soft, white, fluffy)

Re: Question on story THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

OK, that's what I'm going with. I have a lesson observation tomorrow and I'm reading the story. I wanted to be able to explain it but I didn't understand it myself.

It makes more sense now.

Thanks again so much
