question on the **** placecard candles
So we all love the candle idea - and it looks like it really worked for Stef's wedding. Kudos to her for the great idea. Here's my question (before I start wrapping vellum) - when do people pick up the placecards? Is it before the cocktail hour? My venue, you have to walk thru the foyer to get to the cocktail room. The foyer is where the placecards would be. You have to walk back thru there to get to ballroom. I figured to have the cards (whatever they may be) set up during the cocktail time. Now when people take the candles, they go right into the ballroom, right? And put them at their table? Or do I set them up before the cocktail hour and let people take them as they come in? I know it seems really anal to concern over. But I wonder if people just want to pick up a simple card and stick it in their pockets instead of carrying an object around. Any opinions?

Re: question on the **** placecard candles
Ok...my venue sounds similar setup to you. I think that some people will grab them when the first walk in and others will say I'm not carrying this around 'll grab it later (I am using mini-pumpkins not gourds so I have similar concerns). I want mine setup before the cocktail hour because of the effect when you first walk in you will see it. Also, it main be a pain for the hall to set them up during the cocktail hour. I really don't want people seeing them being set up.So in short, I will have them setup before the cocktail hour and the guests can decide when they want to pick them up.

Re: question on the **** placecard candles
It's funny, I've been having the same debate in my head... While I love the candles, I wonder if it'll be a pain for the guests or if it'll crowd the table too much. Hmmm...
I think it'll be easiest if the guests pick them up after the cocktail hour so they can bring it right over to the table and drop it off. That way they won't be stuck carrying the candle around. Just be prepared that there might be a bit of a traffic jam between the cocktail hour and reception. Also, keep in mind how much room there will be at your tables. There's my $0.02.

Re: question on the **** placecard candles
thanks for the input ladies. I am thinking I might skip them. I love the idea - but I feel like the only people that will see the 'full' effect will be the people that come in first. By the time the later people get there, there will be scattered candles on the table...shoot. Now I don't know what to do. It looks so pretty but I don't want the congestion in the foyer....maybe better to keep it simple.

Re: question on the **** placecard candles
My reception place does personal seating so I don't need placecards but I was thinking of doing the cancles anyway with our names and date on it to put on the dinner tables. The candles give off such a nice, soft glow.

Re: question on the **** placecard candles
i called my recption hall who normally gives out the place cards in the cocktail hour. since I am also doing the candles, i asked them that they be given out right before my guests enter the recption, they agreed.
