Question over wording of invitation

Question over wording of invitation

Is there some sort of rule or guideline that I can actually find or print out or show my FH regarding how to word invitations? He thinks that it should say the parents names first (both sides, regardless of who is paying for the wedding or giving money towards it) that they are 'requesting the honour of your presence'. HOwever, my dad is paying for 1/3 of the wedding and we are paying the rest ourselves. I don't think his dad's name should be put on the invitation that he is 'requesting' anyone's presence. I think it should say 'Mr. Father of the bride requests the honour of your presence in the Holy Sacrament of Marriage uniting his daughter 'brides name' to 'groom's name', son of 'Mr. Father of the groom'. Or it should say 'bride, daugher of Mr. Father of the Bride, and groom, son of Mr. Father of Groom, request the honour of your presence..'

I would rather actually show him some sort of authority that says 'this is how you do it when X is paying for part or the whole wedding'. Back where he's from (I'm so sick of hearing how they do it in his country, I don't give a rat's ass how it's done there, he LIVES HERE NOW) they always put that both sets of parents request guests presence no matter who pays for the wedding. To me, the fact that my dad (who is retired, mind you) is paying for 1/3 of the whole wedding is really important and I want people to know that he is helping. I feel that by having his dad up there along with mine, it takes away from the specialness that my dad is helping us out. FH won't even ask his dad to foot the rehursal dinner for heaven's sakes.

Help! We got in a HUGE argument over it yesterday.
I'm so so so sick of bickering over every single wedding detail with him. He hates all my ideas, alwasy tells me how it's done where he's from and if he doesn't shut up I'm gonna tell him maybe he should move back there!

Re: Question over wording of invitation

I agree to with you- by still putting his dads names but the way you worded it. However, I have also seen a disagreement with this on other posts.

If you have to give in though - maybe here is another way to make your dad more important- have his name and address and the RSVP info. then everyone will get the idea even if the invite has both!

JMO, what do you think?

Yes, that is a good idea to put his name and address as the RSVP. But I don't live with him, so I'll be DYING every day asking who RSVP'd so far!
