Out of curiousity...When a child is baptized into the Catholic faith, do one or both Godparents have to be Catholic? Meaning, if one Godparent is Catholic, can the other be from another religion?

Re: Question re: baptism
Misty, on the parenting board there is something pertaining to this topic...
One adult over 16 must be confirmed catholic in order to baptize in the Catholic church, the other has to be confirmed some type of Christian.
I think in my church which is Lutheran, both Godparents have to atleast be confirmed a Christian (any type).
Hope that makes sense. I think it's on the first page of the parenting board if you want to check it out!

Re: Question re: baptism
Lol T...I know, we've gone over it. But I got into a conversation with someone here at work who heard differently, and I really thought I was the one that was right, I just needed confirmation (no pun intended)

Re: Question re: baptism
T- both Godparents do not have to be confirmed Catholics. One must be, the other can be a baptized Christian but is technically known as a Christian Witness, not a godparent. I was on the phone with my Church 2 weeks ago with this very same question.

Re: Question re: baptism
The information that michele has stated that she got from her church is 100% correct and also, Godparents now adays do not have to be a male and female. They can be both females or both males.
