Question re: Tux

So FH and I are attending a black tie wedding this weekend and we went and rented a tux. So when we put in the request we requested a bowtie but what we got was one of those regular ties.

Never having been to a black tie wedding before and only seeing wedding party people wear tuxes with ties, is it okay for a guest to wear a tux with a tie?

This is probably a silly question but has started to worry me...looking for reassurance.

Id just go back and ask for a bow tie - Im sure they have them around.

Actually, the tux place that we rented from said that bow ties are a bit passe - more people are wearing regular ties now with tuxes

I think the tie he got would be fine. My FH and I go to black tie functions all the time for his work and a lot of men simply don't wear black tie. They just wear a regular suit.

I don't think that you need to have a bowtie for him to be dressed right.
