I called my reception site to schedule a contract meeting. I asked for a copy of a past bill with all identifying info removed so I could see what was charged, to make sure there were no hidden fees. Well, I was told they could not do this because it is a violation of ethical conduct - which I am not sure how this is a violation of any ethics if all identifying materials are removed. In fact I have read that it is good business for a vender to supply this for review, and smart on the brides part to request this info upfront. Maybe I am not clear on what I should request. What did you girls think?

Re: Question regarding contracts
Wish I could help you on this one. I can kind of understand why they wouldn't want to do this for their own purposes. Personally I think the best thing you can do is look over your contract with a fine tooth comb to make sure they aren't throwing in anything you don't know about...read the fine print. Ask questions if you see something you don't understand and if you don't like what they are presenting to you...don't sign it.
ETA: when we went to sign our contract I sat there for a number of minutes reading every little thing before I signed. Hope this helps.

Re: Question regarding contracts
I consistently get copies of my contract every time we make a payment - it shows my new balance & shows what we are getting & for how much..

Your money, your info, your contract, you're entitled to it. There's no ethical code being broken. Ask them to provide you w/that ethical code, and they probably won't have it!

I'm not sure of your question. You want to see a past bill from someone else's wedding reception to see if there were hidden fees? Presumably that is the reason the identifying info. would be removed - since it's someone else's bills?
Otherwise, it really makes no sense not to give you a copy of your own past bill
If you do want someone else's bill, I can see the point in not giving it to you, even with the identifying info removed since the date would have to still be there to give you any kind of reference point. That is because I was shown a contract (not a bill) at a hall and it was about 3 x's the price we were quoted. A pressure tactic that didn't work on us. Granted, we were quoted for dead of blizzard season and the contract was for 10/15/05 (a Saturday night). I would have been pretty pissed if a hall showed my contract to someone else.

I agree. I understand where the hall is coming from. The fee's will not be the same depending on when someone else had their affair. The fine print on the contracts are usually all the same, just examine yours closely. I have never heard that it consumer saavy to view other people's contracts. They should however have available to you all your information at anytime.
