...that even if a company includes a gratuity in their billing, you are still expected to hand a tip to the actual person providing the service? Someone we know told us they were told limo companies do this.

My fiance and I just had a disagreement the other night over this same topic. I say yes he says no. I know this is always brought up on the board but I never really paid any attention to it. Now that the day is getting closer I would like some information on what others are doing.

They may be telling you that, but it doesn`t necessarily mean it`s right. If the limo company is adding the tip in, then telling you to tip the driver seperately, the amount they added in is not a tip, it`s just a way for them to jack up the bill. When you go to a restaurant that includes an automatic 18% tip because you have more than 6 at the table, do you leave an extra tip? I don`t - they`ve already told me what I`m going to tip, and added it in. The only exception would be the expectation to give the Maitre`d a separate tip for their service, since the gratuity that is included in the reception site fee is presumably going to the wait staff, bartenders, etc. The Maitre`d generally gets something extra for what should be extraordinary attention to making your day perfect. Beyond that, if anyone else does an exceptional job, like a limo driver that get`s stains out of a dress, then you can reward that effort with a little extra if you like, but it should not be required. Either the tip is included, or it`s not, but it doesn`t go both ways.
