Question....if you and FH are paying for the wedding with no other financial help, do you add 'with our parents'?
Also...even though our reception is going to be in a tent, we still want people to dress up nicely. FH will be in a tux, not a suit....and people give us funny looks when we tell them that...how would you word that? Is it semi-formal attire requested? Can you have a dress code? I would just hate for people to show up 'casual' because they associated 'tent wedding' with 'backyard'...am I making any sense?

you can still add with our parents bc well regardless if they paid or not they still are our parents and have done so much for us all our lives, so that shouldn't be taken away from them for one event. You can also just do your name and under write daughter of Mr and MrsX and then your fh's name, son of mr and mrs X
I didnt put a dress code, but if you want a semi-formal event then you can put that. Or you can even put formal.

Re: Question regarding invitation wording?
we paid for 90% of ther wedding ourselves, my mom paid for my flowers and dress,
also when ordering our invites we where having some family drama, dh parents where getting divorced so our invites say together with out parent Brides name then grooms name

Re: Question regarding invitation wording?
it depends. we added together with our families after our names because everyone has helped in so many ways even if they aren't paying for the actual wedding.
that's tough about the dress; I'm getting a lot of that because our wedding is during the day; people have actually said they don't know how to dress because of that and I just roll my eyes because i dress the same for a day or evening wedding if it's at a hall - only if it's black tie do I differentiate and wear a long dress. you could try semi-formal though that might be taken out of context; so would formal. maybe just 'appropriate attire' or something? i.e., no jeans

Re: Question regarding invitation wording?
we are paying for everything ourselves but we still wanted our parents on there. so we wrote our names, together with our parents...their names...request the honor of your presence...and so on. as for the attire, i see what you're saying. i would maybe write. 'semi-formal attire. reception to follow.' on the invite.

Re: Question regarding invitation wording?
FH and I also paid for the entire wedding ourselves...we put our names then added 'together with our parents'....
like one of the brides said on this board, they've done so much for us all our lives, so why not? They deserve a little acknowledgment.

you don't have to put 'with their parents' I did, cause they paid for some things, and I thought it would be nice

Ok...I do like the idea of adding the parents. I see what you girls are saying and I agree wholeheartedly. The next question is...how do I word it since I lost my mom?

Re: Question regarding invitation wording?
I am adding the parents on the invitation. FH and I are getting some help from the parents, but either way I would have added them just because I think it's nice to have them mentioned on the invite.
As for the dress code, that is a tough one. I think maybe you should add 'semi-formal' or maybe even 'formal.' I would definitely add something if I were you because some people might show up dressed down, and I hate that!

I also forgot to mention that my parents were divorced....this is tricky....

Re: Question regarding invitation wording?
We had it the other way around- DH's parents and my family were helping to pay for certain things for the wedding.
We worded it like this:
Danielle _____________ and Gary __________ together with their families
-- and so on and so on
everyone was very happy with the way that I worded things and I was happy that I did it that way. Both my parents are deceased so I felt this was also a good way (without going on and on) to include them as well.
Also keep in mind that on most invitations all you have is 12-14 lines of text.
