Question regarding Rings

I just went to a jewelers to get my wedding band customized, now he said that there was a company that he uses that can find the exact band thats suppose dto match your ring so he would have to send my ring to his friend (he said his son personally hands the guy the ring) but then he said if they can't find it, they have to keep my ring for up to 6 weeks to custom make it

has anyone else heard of this? Is this normal?

what jeweler is that??

I'm having mine custom made and when I went to have my wax mold my ring never left my sight.

granted I'm having problems with my jeweler... but thats over a separate issue.

Re: Question regarding Rings

I had my e-ring custom made in New Zealand. When I went to New Zealand to meet with the jeweler to customize my wedding band they suggested that I have a third, gold band that mirrored my e-ring on one side and was straight on the other so that my wedding band would sit flat and wouldnt' continually rub on my e-ring eventually doing damage (i didnt want a curved wedding band). He needed my ring for 2 days to make the gold spacer band. So, i don't think there is anything wrong with them asking you to leave your ring with them but 6 weeks seems like a long time. they were able to cut the band to perfectly fit my e-ring in 30 hours.

I wouldn't do that! If you want I have an amazing jeweler who custom made my engagement ring and is going to match my band to it. He's a sweetheart and honorable. I know the family very well. FM me if you want his info.

I know that Fh had my ring set at marinelli. He bought the stone and setting separately. I think that is such a long time for them to keep it and its a little strange but they are a reputable place.

Re: Question regarding Rings

I totally understand the hesitation. if you are unsure or feel funny dont do it. i guess i felt ok because it was the jeweler that made my ring, and they store had been owned by a family friend of my FH (not anymore but the employees were the same). all of the women in FH's family had their rings made there and i felt ok with it. they had to do a very careful custom puzzle spacer band so it had to be done.
