FIL's family were invited to a wedding (their sons' sister-in-law's wedding- i know confusing) ..The invite went out to the family...Now they have a huge family...so FMIL assumed the whole family had to go...meanign all her children and significant others...Total of 9 people went including FH and myself...Although there was only one invitation - i thought it would be proper for FH and I to give a card w/ a money gift separately from the family.
FMIL thought it was wrong because we only received one invite for the whole family. I understand her point, but i would have felt wierd going up to them and congratulating them empty handed...plus I really dont want FH's family paying for me going to a wedding....
i may be wrong...but i felt more comfortable giving our own envelope.
What is proper? Is their a proper etiquette for this?

Re: Question regarding wedding invite...
I went to a wedding recently where there was only 1 invite for a family of 50 million.
So Fh and I gave our own envelope.
IMO, that was proper.

I think you did the right thing! It is never wrong to give a card or a gift!

Re: Question regarding wedding invite...
anyone whos invited who is working should be able to give a separate card... even if its one invite for all..

Re: Question regarding wedding invite...
just because there is one invite doesnt mean there should be one envelope, if the FIL is giving a substantial amount in the envelope to cover everyone invited then it should be find, but if you think they aren't I would feel more comfortable giving my own gift...sorry if the lingo is wrong(FIL, FMIL im still new at this)
