Hi Girls, I know some of you (alot of you) are expecting, and you all said it happened so quick. I know this is really personal, but I feel like every time me and DH have sex, then that month when I'm waiting for my period and I'm a day late, I freak and think I'm pregnant. I'm on the pill & take it every single night, and never forget ever. My question is - those of you who are pregnant, did you gradually come off the pill or did it just happen while you were still on the pill? I juust want to know a percentage, because I don't want to have a baby for at least 5 years! ? If this is too personal, I will understand . . .

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
Not pregnant but TTC after being on the pill. IIt is very rare to get pregnant while still on the pill as the pill has 99% effectiveness if not more. Most doctors will suggest to be off the pill for 3 cycles before TTC. My doctor said one full cycle.
You should also know that the pill is not like medication that you wean yourself off from. It doesnt lose effectiveness in the same way that other types of medications do. Many women are very fertile when they stop the pill for their first cycles.

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
I was on the pill for over 15 years and there were days when I skipped a pill if not two days when I skipped two pills. I have never gotten pregnant. Stress plays a role in your cycle whether on the pill or not. I would not worry.

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
I think as long as you are taking the pill correctly, you should be OK. I was on the pill for 10 years and never once thought I was pregnant. I was never late when taking the pill correctly.
I stopped taking the pill after my wedding in October and just found out I am pregnant yesterday (still have to confirm with the doctor because I am still in shock... happy shock!)
Once you stop taking the pill, your body will kick into gear right away!

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
I was on the pill religiously for about 5 years straight. DH and I were married June 25, and my last pill of my last pack was July 2, with AF starting that Tuesday. DH and I did not use any other form of BC as we were trying to conceive but not tracking temps or anything. I conceived in mid-August! So, to answer your question, I stopped cold turkey and we were blessed to get pregnant to quickly!

I stopped taking the pill the month of my wedding, after the honeymoon. I got my period in May and June and then I got pregnant in July

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
I was on the pill for 10 years & like Leslie slipped up a few times, missing a pill or doubling up or skipping a week entirely (to get AF early) & there were times I came a day or so late. Don't stress, like Leslie said its 99% accurate.
I got pregnant the 2nd month after coming off the pill.

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
Actually the OLD pill used to be 99% safe. It's not anymore. If you take it exactly as indicated it woud be at best in the low 90%.
NOW... there are no rules when it comes to becoming PG. Some women took the pill for 10-15 years and it can take 1 year to get PG, some get PG the month after they stopped, some get PG while on the pill. Some younger women have a harder time conceiving than some older women. It varies from one person to another.
What matters is that you must be regular with your pill (start time every day!).
When TTC, you will realize that some women worried their entire life about NOT getting PG and when finally they TTC they can't get PG. Go figure!!!!

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
I went off the pill 3 months before our wedding b/c we wanted to try right away. I had been on the pill for 14 years and my doctor said I should be off for 3 months to give my body a break. He also told me I had a tilted uterus and I would have difficulty getting pregnant . Well 10 days after I came off Josh Jr. was created .

I think it depends on the brand of pill she is taking and the percentage of hormones in the pills. Every pill I have ever been on has been 99% effective if taken properly. Doctors have reasons for prescribing certain pills to certain patients otherwise we would all have been on the same one. But you are right, I took the pill to avoid something I wasn't ready for. Now I am ready and it isnt happening as planned. But I will say that the pill has nothing to do with it. The eggs are dropping, they just aint being hatched!

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
I was on Yasmin before I went off of birth control altogether. I missed pills all the time. I was never pregnant. It was, by far, the best pill I was on and I would still be on it if we werent trying to have children.
According to Yasmin's website, it is over 99% effective when used properly.

Isn't this supposed to be with all pills?

Re: Question to the pregnant 06'ers
I went off the pill in July and and started TTC in October. However, we were together 3 1/2 years before we got married and TTC and even though I ocassionally forgot to take a pill, we never had an 'oops'. We did use other backup methods if I did miss a pill, however. Just to be safe.

What a relief. I too have been told I have a tilted uterus and that I would have trouble and I understand I still might, but it's good to hear that it's not that hard. Not yet TTC but later this year... gotta buy a home first.
Currently, I'm on YAZ - I'm sure the package says 99%. I've never heard the 90% figure and I've been on a few different brands. But it's only 99% effective if you use it properly. I'm not sure what that means, but I'm assuming it means every day, about the same time, and I have to believe it's probably ok to miss a day or be late on occasion (but not often) since even the package says you only need back up if you miss more than two days during certain weeks (if I remember correctly) and I've certainly missed days and been fine. Check the pamphlet that comes with it if you're not sure.
