Question - was I out of line?

Question - was I out of line?

Last night I went to bed early because I was not feeling well. I got up about 8:30 because I was feeling nauseous and went to the bathroom. Someone called and FH answered and it was a friend of mine that lives downstair in my apt building. She was at her sister-in-law's with her 4 month old daughter. She wanted me to go downstairs to knock on her door to wake her husband up to go and pick her up from SIL home. Apparently her phone was off the hook (he called in sick to work and didn't want them calling) and he wasn't answering his cell phone. I said OK (but I really didn't want to). I said can you take a taxi home and she said no because she didn't have a baby seat with her. FH got mad after I hung up and got dressed because I was sick and that she should have called someone else or taken the taxi. He said 5 minutes in a taxi (and that's all it would be I know where her SIL lives) wouldn't be that bad if she held the baby. I said 'well it's risky and illegal to do that' so I go downstairs. I asked FH to go for me but he said no, that he didn't see why my friend, who knew from yesterday morning I was sick, was calling me to do this when she could call a taxi instead. I also can't stand her husband - he's a jerk and he's rude to her own family. I rang twice, no answer so I said 'oh well i'm not standing here all night ringing this damn door' so I went to check my mailbox which is right near her door. I started walking back upstairs and he opens the door, he's on his cell phone and said 'thanks mary' and I said 'is that your wife on the phone' and he said yes.

So I thought to myself 'why was he on the phone already before he answered the door' and it pissed me off because it was obvious he realized he had to go and get her and why was I asked to go and knock on the door?
So I called her back to say 'denis heard the door' but I think I really wanted to call her and say 'why did you call me when you knew I was sick' and I told her I was sleeping when she called and she got all huffy and said 'well thank you for getting dressed and going down there it was very nice of you' and I just didn't understand - if he was on the phone already obviously he knew he had to get her and I don't think she needed to have me do it. I even said that taking a taxi woudn't have been the worst thing in the world and she got bitchy and said 'well if you want to risk doing that when you have a baby that's your business but I'm not going to risk it myself' I ended up yelling at her 'you knew I was sick all day and FH told you I was sick when you called and I was sleeping before that' and she hung up on me.

Ok so I shoulnd't have yelled but really - I didn't think what she did was fair. She's a bit self centered. But what I am afraid of is that her sister is one of my BM and I'm good friends with another one of her sisters and now I feel like they're all going to be mad at me for yelling at their sister. I should have just told her I couldn't do it but I told her when she had the baby that if she needed anything to call me so I felt obligated. And I'm a bit pissed off that FH didn't go downstairs and do it - he's so fucking stubborn sometimes.

If I was wrong please tell me. I feel bad but I also think she shouldn't have called to begin with and found another solution. But if I was wrong, I will apologize.

I would be pissed!!! If the sisters aked just tell them you were sick. And even AFTER you told her that you would get dressed & do it. She called him. What is that all about??

Did anyone else notice that you got away w/ the F word??? =)

Re: Question - was I out of line?

shelzyp: it was just that she knew from 10am yesterday morning I was sick because I had rang her to see if she had an extra roll of TP to give to me since we ran out and I needed it desperately.

she even had the balls to ask me to watch the baby at 4pm. and me, being the idiot I am said OK (because I told her wehn she had the baby if she needed anything to call me). She had to run an errand, which, IMO, could have been done with the baby in tow. I figured she didn't want to bring the baby out since she had a head cold. But she brought the baby to her SIL house. So I don't get it.

I'm pissed at FH too, he could have knocked on the door for me.

Believe it or not I'm more concerned that she's going to tell her 2 sisters I yelled at her and then they'll think I'm a ***** and one of them is in my BP and that will make things tense.

Grr.

I don't think you were out of line. I think that she probably tried to call her husband and he wasn't answering the cell phone so then she called you. I think she kept trying to call the husband afterwards and he finally gave in and answered it. You were annoyed because you were inconvenienced when she knew you were sick and she got angry because you got angry at her. She was in a bad mood to begin with and so she got annoyed right back at you.

I think this is all her husbands fault! Answer your freaking cell phone! The damn thing has caller id. He had to know who was calling him. This certainly wasn't your problem and you weren't wrong at all!

Re: Question - was I out of line?

omg I can say the F word but not the B word.

It must have been a glitch.

I would try it again but I don't want to offend anyone! LOL

I am kinda relieved that you guys think that I wasn't a horrible person for yelling at her.

I am actually a little offended that she said 'maybe you will risk putting a child in a car with no child seat but i'm ot willing to risk it.' Yeah I know it's very dangerous to do and I normally woudln't do it but if I'm stuck in a bind, I would if I knew it was for 5 minutes. Oh and by the way she has 1 sister that lives around the corner from her SIL and while she probably couldn't come to get her at least she has a car seat, she could have brought it over or something.

Thanks for listening girls. The whole situation upset me so much I cried for 1/2 hour last night and I feel horrible again today in my stomach from the stress.

On the upside, they're moving out next week.

I guess I can forget about getting an invitation to her daughter's baptism next month. LOL

Try not to let her upset you like this. You didn't do anything wrong. You were doing her a favor.
Whenever someone says something to piss me off, I just look who its coming from and try and not let it bug me. I know that sometimes that is so hard to do though.
Hope you are feeling better today.

Thanks girls, I guess being sick and all I just wasnt sure if I was out of line or what.

It's good to hear other's opinions.

Re: Question - was I out of line?

Im late here but you were not out of line at all!!!

I am sure there was a reason that the SIL and the sister around the corner didn't help them - they probably wore out their welcome ages ago. You are so sick you are home in bed and asking to borrow TP and yet she asks you to babysit, pick her up and deliver messages.

And were you the one that had an issue with downstairs neighbors and a big bag of laundry a while back?? If so, they sounded nuts then!

ps...I hope you are feeling better

Re: Question - was I out of line?

from the womans point of view...she was probably panicking about getting home and decided to call anyone to figure it out...and then kept trying her DH and he finally answered whoile you were getting dressed...

next time you see her, just tell he that you didn't mean to yell, but you weren't feeling well...

Re: Question - was I out of line?

IMO I think that you are wrong. She asked you to do downstairs, not get in your car and drive someplace? I would never take a 4 month old baby anywhere in a car without a car seat.. or recommend to anyone to do that. It is crazy and you never know what could happen, even if it is up the block. Friends help freineds out....even when they are sick. JMO

Re: Question - was I out of line?

Ok, that whole situation sucks.
I’m pretty sure I would have done the same thing. Usually when I’m that sick I could care less who’s who and would have just done it and walked off.

If I had yelled I would probably apologize… sort of. I would say “Look, I was sick and really out of it. Sorry if I offended you, I wasn’t quite myself.” She may come back with some “you were mean” thing.. I’d ignore it. I always try to put myself in other person’s shoes for a moment. It’s ok to be upset. It’s not ok to hold a grudge.
