Ok. My wedding in July 2006, and have not booked anything yet (booking hall in 1 1/2 wks!!!!). FH and I wanted as much time as we could tolerate to save $$. My question is this, what vendors (aside from the hall) get paid when? Florist? Photo/video? etc. Thanks!! I am trying to figure our budget! TIA!! -Jill

Many of them will not need a final balance until the months leading up to the wedding.
I would say put a deposit down to hold a vendor, and then, with the wedding so far away, you will have a nice amount of time to stash the cash. Better yet, set up a payment plan, and pay as you go...
Alot of vendors are flexible on this-be open about how you need to pay, and many will accomodate you.

I like the 'pay-as-you-go' idea! Now, after we give them deposits, and we pay most of the balance as we go, when do most final payments need to be? I heard from some that the photo/video don't get their final pmt until you pick up the finished product. What about florist?

I would book with the vendors you want and leave down the deposits. Most likely no other payments (except hall) will be due for the following year. This gives you 12 months to stash away money in a savings account. OR Make a tiny payment each month to each vendor and after two years a bulk of the balance will be paid.

For the photographer there will probaly be around 1/3 due after the wedding. I gave my florist our final payment 6 weeks before the wedding. My limos wanted the final balance 3 weeks before the wedding, I was unaware of this, so I sent them a check in the mail today! DJ wanted a deposit and the balance when we chose our songs or the wedding night. Hope this helps you.
For most of my vendors i sent unscheduled payments throughout the year and 3 months. It made it a lot easier on us in the end.

Our florist was 20% down, then 1/3 balance ( I think) 60 days before, remaining bal after that, I forget exactly..Our Limo was 30% deposit, remainder anytime up to the day of... DJ was 30% deposit, rest the day of...
