Questions about formula

Questions about formula

Which type do most moms here use? Powder or Ready to feed? Also, where do you recommend buying formula for the best price? Supermarket? Drugstore, BRU? And how do you buy - in quantity? Like do you buy a case?

I'm weaning Ryan right now and going through a ton of formula for my big boy! Any advice would be a great help! Thanks!

Re: Questions about formula

I use powder (Similac Advance). It's a bit of a pain, but more economical. BRU sells the jumbo cans (25 oz I think) in a case of 6 - you just have to ask them to get it from the back.

We use the Carnation Alsoy in the powder form. I buy them 3 at a time at my local Waldbaums. They have the best price and when you buy 3 you get $2.00 off your next shopping order and whenever you accumulate $200 spent on baby products, they give you $20 cash back.

I don't find the power hard at all. Luke has 6 oz bottles so I use 3 oz cold water from the Brita filter in the fridge and 3 oz of boiled water and it's the perfect temp. If we are going out, I make a hotter bottle, depending on when he's expected to eat and then just add the powder when he's ready.

HTH

BTW, I find most powders very bubbly when you mix them but the Carnation is not and it's the least expensive too.

I use Sim. w/ Iron (ready to feed) I tried the powder b/c it is cheaper however, Babe didn't like it - kept spitting up - so we went back to the ready to fee.
I have found that Buy Buy Baby has a good price I believe it's $22.99 for 6 bottles it's $26.99 at Baby's R Us
We have also bought it at BJ's
I have been told by my doctor that Sim. Advance is the best - however, my babe was used to Sim. w/Iron so we stuck with it - that's what they gave her in the hospital -
I used it when I breastfed too as the supplement and it worked well.

One other thing, if you are weaning from exclusively breastfeeding, don't be shocked by the very different poops you will start seeing from your little man.

Paul's on whole milk now, but he used to drink Similac w/Iron. We used the RTF b/c I did not like the icky residue the powder caused, and I never felt like it was mixed well enough.

We always bought it at BRU b/c at the time, they were the cheapest. We used to buy the quarts - in cases of six - and three cases each time. But, then BRU raised their prices. Thank goodness Paul's drinking milk now!

You're not kidding about the poop!! MAN! He's on the soy formula too so it is the greenest, grossest, smelliest thing! Whew!! Thanks for all the advice - back to BRU I guess - I feel like I LIVE in that store lately!!

Re: Questions about formula

WE Suppliment with Similac with Iron...started with the ready to feed since I had recieved a few bottles from the hospital. I kept them even tho I;m bfing. Now I can't keep up w. julianne when I pump so we suppliment.
Was able to get a bottle or 2 from our peditrician too as they had samples.

Was sent a 'welcoming' kit from simlilac with the powder cans...and we are using that too.

Powder lasts longer...the ready to feed once u open it is only good for 48 hours.

haven't had to buy any yet...a friend got us 2 cases of ready to feed as a present
