What kind of questions do you ask when you are go to a reception hall? Do you bring anything(like a notebook to write stuff down?) How do I know what my reception hall budget should be per person?? Especially if I have no clue what the total of all the vendors will be?

Re: QUESTIONS ABOUT RECEPTION
Here's a copy of the questionnaire I filled out at each of the places we went to look at. By asking the same questions at each one it made it easier to compare when we got home.
(Some of the questions may not be applicable to you.)
Capacity:
Accommodation to time Schedule with Rabbi/Twilight Sunday:
Dates Available:
Number of Concurrent Events: If more than one event: separate bathroom facilities?
Is Champagne Included throughout the reception?
Liquor – top shelf? (names – grey goose or absolut?)
Are candles allowed?
In-house Wedding Planner?
Photography/Florist – recommendations? Can use other?
Wedding Cake – included?
Number of Entrée Options
Ratio of Guests:Servers
Number of Bars and Bartenders
Coat Room and Rest Room Attendants? Is cost included?
Table Size (number) + Maximum Number of Tables:
Valet – included or additional?
Dimensions of Dance Floor:
Dimensions of Room:
Separate Cocktail Room:
Gratuity – is it a set fee? Is it distributed amongst all of the workers, including the valet, bathroom, bartenders, servers, etc?

Re: QUESTIONS ABOUT RECEPTION
My FI and I worked out our budget before we did ANYTHING. We needed to know about how much $$ total we had. We also tried to get a rough guest list together, just so we could know generally how many people you will invite. You don't have to know exactly, but you'll make different decisions based upon whether you're having 50 people or 250 people.
A little more than 50% of our total budget went for the reception (food/drink/place), just to give you an idea.
Let us know if you need anything else!

Re: QUESTIONS ABOUT RECEPTION
Thank you so much. So if I have 100 guests and a 15, 000 budget I can do up to 75 dollars pp at the reception?? This is really like a job (planning) I feel like I should get paid to plan my wedding (teehee)

Re: QUESTIONS ABOUT RECEPTION
Don't forget to add about 25% to whatever per head cost they give you. (most places charge you about 8% tax + 18% gratuity on top of the per head cost). So, if they say $100 per head, you'll really be at about $125. They'll tell you the extra charges before you sign the contract, if not - ASK!!!
Also, ask about different times of days and days. Sat nights will almost always be the most expensive, but an afternoon, or a Friday or Sunday, may be less. Time of year sometimes has a factor too- sometimes it's cheaper in the winter, but not always.
