OK so tonight I went to the DR..I asked for that extra sonogram (even though I know my next one is next month) maybe to see the babys sex a little early...but mostly just to see my baby...(I havent had one in 8 weeks)
The DR told me if he gave me one tonight...it would replace next months...and it would be alot less accurate...but we made a deal, instead of making the next apt. in 4 weeks, we made it in 3... So yay I should know the sex of my baby but 5/25
Anyways my DR and I havent really spoke about this being a level ll I just assumed, because thats something that gets done around that time.... When I was making the apt with the receptionist I said 'this is a level ll right?' and she said 'no we dont do that here we send you out for them, and we usually dont send you unless we need to'
Dosent everyone get a level ll???? PLus I didnt do the AFP testing... wouldnt this make them wanna do this as well... I totally intend to talk to my dr about this in 3 weeks.... but can someone give me some background on this...therefore i dont look like i dont know what I am talking about! TIA

Re: Questions about the level ll
level 2's arent usually done unless there is a problem like they cant see all the anatomy well or something like that. They dont just do them for your reg sched. sonos.

Re: Questions about the level ll
I have a sonogram scheduled for 20 weeks,(June 8) I think I just assumed its a level II - My Dr. is sending me to the hospital to have that one done. I remember I had the same test done with my son around 20 weeks.

Re: Questions about the level ll
At my dr. office, they did not refer to my 20 week sonogram where I found out the sex, etc. as a Level II - they told me that Level IIs are only for certain instances (which I don't remember). They called the 20 week sonogram something else...

Re: Questions about the level ll
My Dr. did refer to the 20 week sono as the Level II.. it is being done at the hospital... he seems to be very thorough with everything as he did the ultrascreen and AFP tests. He didnt make it seem like I was going because something was wrong, but more for fetal anatomy and stuff like that. Is that wrong? Should I worry now?

Re: Questions about the level ll
The Level II is also known as the Anatomy sonogram. I thought it was a routine procedure. As per the instructions in the packet I got with my first OB appt, it is done between 19-20 weeks. (I had mine at 17 1/2 weeks for other reasons). I have never known anyone to NOT get one. Oh yeah, and mine turned out to be 4D...cool!

Re: Questions about the level ll
I had my big sonogram at 17 1/2 weeks. We found out the sex of the baby, they checked all the anatomy, etc. My doctor referred to this as the 'main' sonogram and it was done at the hospital. I'm sure what you're getting is the same thing - they all just have different sames for everything so it gets confusing.

Re: Questions about the level ll
Thats exactly what Im doing...it was supposed to be a 20 week sono, but because Im a PITA and are very anxious to know the sex they made it 19 weeks... I was also told that they would not send me for a level ll unless they couldnt see something or whatever...
A friend at work told me today the only reason she got a level ll was because they couldnt get a good view of her baby's skull...
It makes me feel better that not everyone has had them...
I dont think you necessarily get one because something is wrong...I guess it depends on your DR.

Re: Questions about the level ll
My 20 week sono (Level II) was done at Nassau Radiology - it is a much more detailed sono that the regular office's machines do not pick up. Plus a doctor comes in and actually does most of it... the tech just takes pics and stuff. The doc comes in to see the baby, make sure everything is okay!
The AFP is optional at most doc offices - that is usually done around the 15 week mark!
Edited just to say - I had no choice, my doc set me up with a level II automatically, no regular sono at 20 weeks for me.

Re: Questions about the level ll
I had a level II at an outside office @ 13 weeks because they had a problem.. All 20 week sono's are anatomy sono's but not all dr's offices do Level II's. I would've loved to have another because it is an amazing picture but unfortunately, my office just does regular ones... I'll try to attach mine if it works...
Out of curiosity, what do you THINK you're having?
Well..... for while I said girl, girl, girl. For no particular reason at all... as time went on I started wondering do I really feel like its a girl, or is that I just would like a girl (as stated many times before first and foremost healthy baby, will love and be overjoyed with either sex)
You hear all these things...if your faces changes its a girl.... or if the baby sits low its a boy...fast heartbeat girl...slow heartbeat boy...
Has my face changed..??? Not at all... Mainly because I havent gained any weight..esp not in my face... however my skin has been pretty bad (esp considering i never had acne before..
As far as where the baby is sitting...i read all these books, and they say by this time the baby should be located about here...and I always find the babys heart beat as low as it can go... so i dunno (i guess its still to soon to really go by that)
As far as the heartbeat...its fast...but its supposed to be fast...ive never been preggo before to compare it to a previous babys heart beat...
So i really dunno... if i had to say one...I would say girl, but again how can i decide if thats becayse I desire it or because I 'feel' that way.... does this make any sense???

Re: Questions about the level ll
I understand I'm 20 weeks now and go for my sono on Monday. Buuuut...we're not going to find out... But, I really truly wanted a boy first - I grew up w/ 2 'big brothers' and want that for my furture daughter as well... but I am TOTALLY thinking I'm having a girl. The same as you - no breakouts, So far I've only gained 4lbs so my face hasn't changed. And the heartbeat was 151 last check - that's girl, right?? But my belly is taking on some massive changes this past week or so...things are moving around in there..
Can you ask your dr to refer you for the level II even if there isn't a problem? Do you have a good rapport with him?

Re: Questions about the level ll
well we will prob talk about the next time im there (5/25) because this was just the receptionist who said 'we usually done send them out unless theres a problem)
I plan on asking the DR. to go more into depth about...what constitutes a reason to go... esp. since i refused the AFP testing...
I just wonder...since they are so strict with the sonograms...if my baby dosent cooperate...when is the next time I will get one.... you dont understand I GOTTA KNOW!!!

Re: Questions about the level ll
you're too funny! I didn't get the AFP test either but it didn't seem to make a difference to my dr's office which type of sono I get on Monday....BUT I will tell you that when I went for my 12 week sono and the DS test my baby wouldn't cooperate and they couldn't measure the neck so I made another appt for 2 days later...that's probably what they would do for you too if your baby gets shy

I never went for a 12 week sono... My 20 week sono will be my 1st since my first visit!
I just hope the baby has his/her legs spread for the world to see...lol
