1 - What is the dress code typically in the evening at restaurants and casinos? Do you really need to wear dresses or are nice cropped pants and sweaters enough?
2 - We're really planning on relaxing during the day and heading out in the evenings for dinners - nothing else too crazy since I'm PG. Should we just take cabs into town? I assume hotel can call one for us on our way out, and are they readily available in town for the way back?
Thanks!

DH and I are going to Aruba in 2 weeks
But I have 2 questions:
1 - What is the dress code typically in the evening at restaurants and casinos? Do you really need to wear dresses or are nice cropped pants and sweaters enough?
2 - We're really planning on relaxing during the day and heading out in the evenings for dinners - nothing else too crazy since I'm PG. Should we just take cabs into town? I assume hotel can call one for us on our way out, and are they readily available in town for the way back?
Teri, a nice pair of short & a top, a sundress, a skirt, pants & a top ...whatever you wish!
Cabs are fine if you dont want to rent a car They can get pricey, depends on who you get.

Re: Questions for Aruba visitors
The dress code is great in Aruba...you can pretty much wear whatever you feel like. You can definitely wear capri pants and a shirt, a comfy sundress and sweater, etc. in the restaurants and the casinos.
I would definitely say that you're better off just getting a cab from your hotel to take you into town or to restaurants...I think the average cab ride was around $5-$8 for us when we were there...however, on Sunday nights we were charged extra...guess it's just one of their ways to make a little extra cash.
The cabs are readily available also once you're in town and looking to go back...just try to find out though if any of the cruise ships will be in port on the days you do go into town. The shops and streets get VERY crowded and that's when we found it a little more difficult to find a cab.
Have a wonderful trip!!!

I don't know, I think that her and I will either have to share the title or fight over it!
Teri-
There really isn't a dress code in Aruba. You can pretty much wear what you would like. I definitely say not too fancy, because it is still pretty warm at night...but I also think it depends on how special you and your husband plan to make the night. I have to agree with Jenn, I always wear lots of shirts/sundresses or dressy capris at nighttime.
As for getting downtown...we always just take a cab. They are regulated on how much they can charge for a ride to the downtown area by their government. The cabs are definitely easy to find outside hotels, as there are usually one or two waiting outside your hotel. Downtown, they aren't too bad to come by...depends on what night and what time.
I hope you have a great time!

Yea they are 'supposed' to be but some charge more, just be aware & ask.

Hmmm, we have never had a problem, ever!
Jenn- are you getting excited? I know May is a little bit away, but it will be here before you know it!

Re: Questions for Aruba visitors
Teri - I would pretty much compare it to Hawaii. It is the same with the dress. Pants, sundress or anything casual. I guess it depends where you are dining also.

Re: Questions for Aruba visitors
I just need to jump in here and INSIST you go to this restaurant The Flying Fishbone.
It's at the other end of the island basically and you will be like -why did this girl on liweddings send me over here - but it is the MOST ROMANTIC restaurant I have ever been to. Seriously. Just amazing. The tables are out on the beach - it's just beautiful.
The dress code everywhere is casual. I wore dresses a lot with flip flops. We rented a Jeep and were VERY glad we did - we got to see a lot more than we would have any other way.

I am jealous, you will have such a nice time, I am sure of it.
Like I said before, I would totally recommend renting a jeep!

The dress code is pretty casual. However, your husband may want to bring a pair of pants because a French restaurant required men to wear pants if they wanted to sit in the main restauarant. My DH was in shorts, so we sat on the porch, which was fine.

Re: Questions for Aruba visitors
We rented 4-wheelers instead of the jeep and had a great time...infact, we were able to go more places than the jeeps. The only thing is, some of the places that you can go are pretty rough, and I don't know personally if I would be able to handle the rough ride while preggo.
I think that food in Aruba is excellent. This last time, we tried a lot of places outside of our all-inclusive and never once had a bad experience. One of our favorite places was this french restaurant on the main street downtown...it was with the Crystal Casino, but cannot remember the name!
Gosh, all this talk of Aruba really is making me sad!
I wonder if my husband and I are still pictured in the travel magazine?

Re: Questions for Aruba visitors
OMG that restaurant looks amazing! But I have to check - do they ONLY serve fish? I don't eat it but DH loves it.
I don't wear too many sundresses so I'll just bring my capris (more comfy anyway!) I didn't wear any dresses in HI either.
If I wasn't Preggo I definitely would have wanted to rent a jeep for off-roading, but in my state that's not the smartest thing. That's why we wondered about renting a car at all.
Are cabs a real PITA? If not, then we'll just suck it up and hail them as needed.

Re: Questions for Aruba visitors
Yes, I did read that you should find out the fare before you're on your way.....
Are there any attractions that we shouldn't miss that we couldn't get too (or that would be really expensive) by cab?
Is everything you'd want to see and do relatively close together?
We'll be staying at the Marriott (the one at the end of the beach)

Re: Questions for Aruba visitors
The island is pretty small and you should be able to find everything relatively quickly. I mean the places you would want to see you get to by off roading and you won't be doing that anyway. Do a sunset sail! I have wanted to do that.
