I'm under the impression that my FH and I have to get married in the Catholic Church in order for it to be recognized by the Church. (We are both Catholic).
I read on this site that you cannot arrange for a Catholic Priest to do the ceremony outside of a Church. Is this true? I wish I could have a day wedding and I would totally do something like that if I could have a Catholic ceremony at the RH.
Any thoughts?

A Catholic priest will only marry you in a church in order for the marriage to be recognized in the church. I'm not sure if there are any priests out there that would bend the rules.

Re: Questions for Catholic Weddings
I asked my priest about this. He said that the marraige ceremony has to be done in a holy place. There are exceptions but for the most part ceremonies must be performed in the catholic church.

Has to be in a church. Unless it is an interfaith marriage.

Re: Questions for Catholic Weddings
i'm pretty sure it has to be in a church in order for it to be recognized. and i would be concerned if you found a priest who would do it outside....anyone remember that 'priest' from suffolk county (i think lake grove) who was doing it and he ended being a total liar! it was a scam!

Re: Questions for Catholic Weddings
Nope they usually can't. FH father is a deacon and he married all his siblings except one sister. he couldn't marry her because she wanted to get married outside in the mountains upstate. He wasn't happy about that. But it was her wedding so she did what made her happy. I hear it was a fun fun fun wedding. I didn't know them then so I didn't go.

Re: Questions for Catholic Weddings
Definitely wont be recognized by the church if it is done outside the church. Im sure there is an exception if it were in a temple or another house of worship though.
My parents wanted to get married in the garden right outside their church (the garden is owned by the church and on church property) and the church STILL woudnt do it!

Re: Questions for Catholic Weddings
TECHNICALLY: priests CANNOT marry outside of a church. they are NOT allowed to. my boss is a Msgr. and i work for the diocese. it is not recognized at all if it isn't in a church. two teachers from a catholic high school had a destination wedding and they NEEDED to do a catholic ceremony when they got back.

NO! a catholic priest will NOT ever marry anyone outside of the church. it will not be recognized by the diocese. if any catholic priest says he can, he's a fraud!
