Are you working or sitting home with the child? If you are working, who takes care of the child while you are at work? What were the factors that made you come to the decisions to stay home or go back to work? Thank you!

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
Im a SAHM. I love it. I decided to stay home and raise Emma because I couldnt imagine missing the first few years of her life when she starts doing things for the first time and I wanted to be the one to teach her things. I also wanted the bonding time. FH owning his own business also helps A LOT. He is the sole bread winner and makes enough to support the 3 of us (thank God). I also thought about going back to work a few days a week and with the cost of childcare I would be working to pay someone to watch her... this is just my life...

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
I am also a SAHM. I had left my verystressful job and was looking to take a very short break when I got pregnant (thought it would take much longer.) I am actually having a difficult time not working. Although we are fine financially, I am starting to feel somewhat isolated being home. I have 5 month old twins, so getting out and about is still difficult. I've been considering going back, but I can't decide if it's worth it.

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
I am expecting our 1st child and I have to go back to work. It is a matter of finances for us. My paycheck makes it worth it to pay for child care. Thankfully my boss is letting me take 12 weeks off and then come back 3 days per week for the next 3-5 months, depending on my needs. Scott has childcare at his job so that is where the baby will go. It is a VERY difficult thing for me to do - and I haven't even had to do it yet- but I know that we cannot make it one just his income alone. It wouldn't just be tight- it would mean no house. But I am sure I will figure it all out.
I think there are pros and cons to both SAHM and working moms. it is hard for all moms.

after my maternity leave I came back to work 3 days a week. I am lucky enough to have my Mom watch Justin the days I am at work.

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
I had all intentions of going back to work but when Luke actually came, I didnt want to leave him. I am glad I am able to be with him so much but things are definitely tight money-wise. My job was very very generous when I told them I wasnt coming back. I had 3 months paid and then they paid me for another 2 1/2 months so this is the first month of one paycheck and it's defenitely a huge adjustment. I am a SAHM and I am also in school to get my nursing license.

Rather than make huge adjustments to our lifestyle, I will be going back to work. Our baby is due in November, and I will be off until the end of February. We are looking into hiring a nanny.

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
with the way FH and I have been working, we hope by the time we actually decide on having a baby, I will be able to stay home the first year or so, and possibly do some kind of work at home on the puter...we;ll see...no babies planned yet, so we can work our butts off, and maybe have a house or at least be ahead financially when baby comes! Living in RI, we have no family here, and I just don;t feel comfortable letting someone else raise my baby in its most precious year of life, but thats just my Opinion, I think I would be working to pay the child care....

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
hi there- let me start off by saying this is an extremely dDIFFICULT decision. I know I may sound touchy about this- ( cuz I am). I would LOVE to stay home / J. But I am the big breadwinner here. If I did not work, we prob would not have a home in a good neighborhood with exxcellant schools. MAAYBE just maybe we would have been able to swing a smaller home...but what do u do when baby comes? out them in a drawer? and when #2 comes, what then? I dont know ( head shaking). We are not living the high life with all luxery items..so we have cut back on what we really dont need...but what we have we have worked HARD for and is all paid off...except the house.
Believe me, walking home from the LIRR last night I was SOO ticked that they raised the fare! that I was trying to think of wwhere else we could live and still have some room...and a backyard. All I could come up with is moving out of state..and that is not an option right now.
So, I work- 3 days in Manhatten, 2 days home. That is TEMP until my boss decides that although I am very productive at home, that it is not worth it to her. On the 3 days I work in NYC, I have a nanny come in. SHE IS WONDERFUL... and J loves her. She takes good care of J..and we think that this just adds to J's socialization process. Takes her out for lots of walks..and mingles with lots of other SAHMS and nannies.
AGain, t his is not ideal for me...esp since my job is stressful and my boss has never had to DO My job...so she cannot understand many of the processes...but this is where I am. My industry has not have hiring sprees since well BEFORE 9.11 and the industry as a whole is down very far. They make do with 1 person instead of FOUR. and there are no LI ad companies that can pay me what we need.
And of course- taxes kill all of us out here.
SO, I am doing the best that I can- and I aam confident that I WILL see a lot of the firsts for Julianne. -
Sorry for the frustration...maybe I am just a wee bit jealous of the SAHMS. I know it isnt an easy job either..but it is one I would like to be ABLE to try to do!

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
I agree with the others, this is such a difficult decision and you need to do what is right for you and your family. I have heard and read about the pros and cons of both working outside the home and staying at home. I think the most important thing is that moms need to support other moms no matter what.
I have intentions of quitting after my maternity leave and staying at home indefinitely. We bought a small 2 BR coop knowing that we will be living on 1 income. Yes, we will be sacrificing having a house, bacyard and a good school disctrict for now (although we are moving to an area with the #1 NYC public elementary school). If I continued to work we would be able to buy that house. Hopefully we will not be so tight that we cannot afford decent vacations, and to pay for activities for our child. If it comes to that, I will definitely go back to work.
I have my Master's degree in a field that I love (still paying student laons) and always imagined myself with a career. So, I will eventually go back to work full time, but it may be after a few years, and after having a couple of children. I don't have family that can watch the baby full time, and paying for daycare will be about 1/2 of my take home pay.

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
Unfortunately I will be going back to work after my maternity leave is over. But on the positive side, my mother will be watching the baby. But I'm not sure if it's the whole week because she has stuff she does on Mon & Thurs, so the baby might have to go to daycare for those 2 days. I have mixed emotions about that. My nephew was in daycare in Jersey for his first 2 /12 years and I think that because of it he was more verbal then other kids his age.
It's a very difficult choice and one that breaks my heart, but unfortunately in this day and age, society doesn't make it easy for a woman to stay home if you ever want to buy a house or now own a house!

Re: questions for Mommies, please?
Phyl is right. Tutor Time for instance (which I am not a big fan of anyway), will only allow children under 18mos 5 days a week and no less

Re: ddaycare for infants
Phyl- I totally share your emotions! I am in very much the same boat. I am very luckly that my boss respects the job that I do and values me BUT it is still going to be very hard going into NYC and being away from the baby for so long, even just 3 days a week. We are lucky that my DH has daycare on site, that does do part time care. I just finished reading A Guide for Working Mothers and honestly, I get very upset when I think of someone else caring for the baby. It is just hard for me but I know that I do not have much of a choice. I will just have to figure this out as we go along.

I will be going back to work also, but I am lucky because I'm the director at a Day Care. So I know everyone who will be taking care of him and I will be right there too.
