Re: Questions... Long Beach People...
west end there are alot of summer rentals and all-year round residents.
west end is very social.there are many bars..parking is a pain esp summer months unless you have a driveway but not that many houses do .the houses are really close together so expect block parties during the summer although it will depend on the block.
long beach generally picks up during the summer months... because summer rentals and manhattanites going to the beach for the day.
are you looking for just the summer or all-year round?
look in the newsday ...and sometimes you can find bulletins at the lirr station or supermarkets

Re: Questions... Long Beach People...
What the above poster said about the West End is correct. I grew up in Long Beach and still live there and would not want to live in the West End as an adult. It's fun but crazy in the summer, parking is a nightmare, and if you live on a block near a bar - expect drunk people screaming outside your house and possibly peeing on your lawn at 5 am!! Kdelace lives in East Atlantic Beach which is a little farther West of the west end and a little farther removed from all of that.
I grew up in the 'East End' (neighborhoods, bigger houses, no bars) and now live in the center of town (Westholme area) - I woud never live down West.
Let me know if you need any more info!! The local Pennysaver that comes out on Saturday morning has a lot of local ads. It would be possible to find a 1 bedroom for $1200, but no way a 2 bedroom. Good luck!

What Michal said is completely true. I also grew up on the East End and loved it! House are farther apart from one another and you have plenty of room. If you are going to rent on the West End - SELL YOUR CAR!! You'll never be able to park anywhere! My fiance lives in the Westholme area, and it's a lot better. We're going to be looking to rent in Long Beach as well. Best of luck!!

There's nothing 'wrong' with it - it's just definitely a lifestyle choice if you want to live down there, and as we get oldre, it becomes less appealing!!

Re: Questions... Long Beach People...
We just bought a house on the west end. We are waiting for the closing date. Me and my husband were both former summer renters on the West End. We met in the Saloon. We both love the whole area of Lb but decided we wanted to live int he area that we both grew to love. Yeah there is alot of great nightlife and the beach is great but I don't think the night life is as crazy as it used to be when Chauncey's was open. I mean people still party, but my friends who love on the west end and I agree that is has calmed down. I guess I disagree with the other opinions. I have already met some of my future neighbors and they said that Lb has many more families now then before. My new neighbors seem really nice. Lots of kids ont he block etc. I can't wait to move to LB!!

Well we still plan to check anything affordable out.. I didn't think something was wrong with the area, I just didn't understand why there were so many available rentals. Thanks again!!!
