Question...Window treatment ideas...

Question...Window treatment ideas...

My bedroom has very small windows (any hi-ranch owners know what I mean ?)
If i remember correctly, one is 34X34 and the other is maybe 6 inches taller.

I REALLY Love the long drapery look in bedrooms and I REALLY DONT LIKE the 'short valance only at the top' look. It looks too empty and bare and not cozy and doesnt complete the room for me.

Do any of you have drapes that are much longer than the window? I know I cant do sheer in this case, but I really want something longer than the windows... Ive even seen pics of drapes all the way to the floor, but I dont want them THAT long, but I was just wondering how long is 'enough'. I guess it will also depend on how the room looks when its complete, and what 'look' will flow best... Too long may look too cluttered, no?

Ideas and pics would be great!

This is just me but I dont like drapes that are longer than the window but not touching the floor. I like either perfectly tailored to the window or really long and droopey.

What do you have under the window? Maybe you can put a nice chair and table to make a reading area and then put a sheer roman shade to fit inside the window?

Stef- HAHHH. Chair and reading table Im lucky my bed will fit in the room

I was just looking at JA's room and I have sheer (light blue) curtains that fit the window size and it does look more neat and uniform...
so I may stick with that option...

and I know myself, having thick drapes (As opposed to sheer, to hide the size difference) will be like just closing off the windows and I LOVEE sunlight...

I love the idea of long drapes in bedrooms
you could use two rods & hang thick drapes wider than the window opening-then hang sheers underneath to complete it. I also love the idea of hanging a decorative rod with formal drapes just below ceiling height to make everything look taller.
Good luck deciding

Kelly, thats the look I like also (decorative rods and long drapes)
My next concern is will this look to 'heavy' for spring time? I can just do springy colors in think drapes right? (and the sheers underneath)..

I think you can do light colors for spring if you'd like. If you hang the drapes just out to each side of the window it will make the window look bigger from the inside-so formal drapes would look more like they belong on the window.
sounds beautiful-takes pics!

Kelly, how long would you suggest?

Re: Question...Window treatment ideas...

I have thick velvet drapes in my living room and I take them down during the summer. They block too much light (even when I push them to the side) and they dont look springy/summer enough to me. But when the color weather returns, i put them back up.

Anna, you can always take the drapes off during spring if you think it looks too heavy.
Im also not a big fan of drapes longer than the floor, I would always get them caught in the vacuum
You can always put decarative tiebacks on one side of the window. I like that look.
