Quick Getaway

Quick Getaway

I do apologize if this is the wrong place to aks this, but I know a lot of people look at this particular forum.

What's a good place to go for a quick romantic getaway?

I've already come up with AC, the wineries & Mohegan Sun.

Sort of local, not looking to fly.

Any information is truly appreciated!!!

I suggest checking out travelzoo.com which offers great discounts for all kinds of travel packages, etc.

Pocono's does sound good. I'll definitely check into that.

Ocean City would probably be good in the summer, I'm looking to go the end of this month.

I'll check out that website...thanks!!!

We do Mystic, CT when ever we need to just be away. Town is super cute and it's not far from Mohegan or Foxwoods. There are also a few wineries. The Day's Inn has an indoor pool I think. We prefer the Comfort Inn. We've also gone apple picking but obvious now isn't the time for apple picking. Plus there's the Sea Port and the Aquarium.

Mystic, CT also sounds good. I was there manyyyy years ago and I always wanted to go back to visit the aquarium.

Newport RI? What is there to do there?

We're looking to go 3rd week of this month since our anniversary is 3/22.

Newport has a lot to do.

There are lots of boat rides, great dining and shopping, The cliff walk is beautiful and romantic and it's on the '1000 places to see before you die' list and with good reason. There are all of these incredible mansions to tour. There are also shows and festivals. Newport is AWESOME. I was just telling FH yesterday that I can't wait to go back

ETA: We've been to mystic a few times, and there's not much to do there. The second time we were over it, but dinner at S&P Oyster company at sunset is great.

Also, last time on the way to Mystic we stopped in Essex for a sunset boat ride and dinner at the Groton Inn..or whatver it's called, and both were awesome. Also the shops in Essex seemed more authentic than the fakie Olde Mistick Village, but the awuarium is great.

We booked last minute and we didn't want to spend a lot, so we actually stayed at the Cpurtyard by Mariott in Warwick, RI. It was quite a drive down to Newport, but we had a nice room with a jacuzzi and we didn't mind the drive.

ETA: Newport has a lot of cute an amazing B7B's

Re: Quick Getaway

We like to go out for nice dinners, have a few drinks at a bar, a little shopping. This trip we were looking to do couple's massages. We were going to do Mohegan Sun then we got a free room at the Borgata in AC but we've been there so many times we wanted a change of scenary.

We were thinking of the wineries but then we thought we would holf off till the warmer weather so we could enjoy the day.

We went to Hyde Park (north of Poughkeepsie). The Vanderbilt Mansion is right up the street. FDR museum & presidential library is there. Eveready Diner from Diner's Drive Ins & Dives. We saw a show at a local theater in Poughkeepsie. There's a winery about 15 -20 minutes away. We had dinner @ the Culinary Institute a couple of times at different restaurants (check out Hudson Valley Restaurant Week 3/6 - 3/11). American Bounty @ CIA is on the list.

HV Restaurant Week

Hope this helps.
