Quick Larkfield review
Larkfield: From guests point of view A++ Our view: CI'm going to start off by saying that our wedding on the whole was amazing. Our guests raved about the food, service and ambiance at Larkfield, so overall, we are very pleased with them and had a great time. The food was delicious and the cocktail hour was astounding. However, we had some issues that I still feel a month later need to be addressed.
We had some problems from day one with the poor attitude of the person that we had been dealing with at Larkfield. We were told and promised a number of things that turned out not to be true (the only event, enclosed ceremony space, piano player, etc). When I addressed it 2 months before our wedding we were basically told by another staff member, who was equally as dismissive, that we got pre-construction pricing when we booked and so we shouldn't be complaining, since we're not paying as much as people that are booking now. The whole process of dealing with them made us feel like just any other couple. When we were doing a post-construction walk-through, the staff member asked us several times if we were having our ceremony and taking picture there beforehand. He couldn't be bothered to remember the details of our booking and was rude and condescending on several occasions. We even heard the way he spoke to people who phoned to inquire about Larkfield. We overlooked it because we loved the place so much, but he's certainly not doing their business any favors. We were at the point with them that we openly regretted booking with them. We shouldn't feel that way in the months leading up to our wedding.
Our main problem occurred on the day of. We were guaranteed to be the only EVENT (not only wedding) on the day, and were surprised to find when we arrived that a Sweet 16 was booked. I stupidly believed that their word was enough and it was not written in the contract (my fault). We were promised the use of the 2 bridal suites. We had a decent size bridal party and were taking our photos beforehand with several family members, so 2 suites was ideal for us to have some space. Not only that, but their were a few kids in the bridal party and we told their parents that they could always use the second suite if the kids got tired or cranky. After taking our pre-ceremony photos, we discovered several teenagers running around upstairs and in the lobby. I told the maitre d' that there is no reason for them to be up there, since the bridal suites are the only things on the second level. He said nothing, clearly unaware that we didn't know there would be another party. We went upstairs to relax before the ceremony and my husband took the guys and his family members into the other suite. He entered the code on the door and discovered several teenage girls using the suite and all of the guys things taken out of it-- so now we were down to one suite. I'm sorry, but a 16 year old and her friends do not need a bridal suite.
Also - several guests told us that teenagers were picking our bathroom baskets clean. Had I known that they were going to be used by another party, I would never have spent $100 dollars on the baskets and the products in them.
As we were lining up for our ceremony, the DJ setting up for the Sweet 16 had the music blasting, to the point where our guests outside were hearing it over our ceremony music. I asked a staff member to have them turn the music off. She told me she will have them turn it down and I repeated that it needed to be turned off while our ceremony was going on.
We were blatantly lied to up until the week before and were never told that there would be another event that night. The person we had been working with even walked us around again to show us where in the building things would take place, pre-ceremony cocktails were to be in the room where the Sweet 16 ended up being. We were even told that our ceremony would take place in that same room if it rained. They knew the entire time that there was another event booked there and never told us and acted like we would have the whole place to ourselves.
The other issue we had is that we had 2 bridal attendants, one was phenomenal and the other was no where to be found the entire time. The guys had to go down to the bar and wait in line behind guests to get their drinks before the ceremony and before we went down to cocktail hour. Even my husband had to go get his own drinks. My biggest regret was handing her a tip at the end of the night, I should have taken the money out of her envelope and given it to the other attendant. Even my husband said he shouldn't have to ask who the other bridal attendant was at the end of the night.
We also had the building being shown right before our ceremony and guests of the Sweet 16 walking through our cocktail hour. Obviously, we were not going to address these issues with them on our wedding day and get in an argument. We were also told on several occasions that we would be taking home several trays of food, which we were happy about because my parents were hosting a lot of out of town guests. I found out the next day that they were only given 3 small take home containers (one beef meal, one chicken meal and something else).
I just felt the need to air this and to warn other brides who are booked or considering booking with them to get ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING in writing, which is what we should have done! Sorry for rambling!!!

I have to say, when I called them to inquire about preliminary pricing, I really found the person who answered the phone totally unhelpful, rude, and condescending ... I was still going to try to see the venue anyways, but I was very turned off.I'm so sorry you had to deal with all of this.

I WISH we could have dealt with George-- He's such a sweetheart! He was present for our tasting and a few other times I stopped in there and we loved him! Unfortunately, it was a younger member of his family owned business, who's been mentioned negatively in some other Larkfield posts here. I'd rather not name him.

Let me just stress the fact that our guests RAVED about our wedding. I don't want to freak anyone out who is getting married there. Our guests new nothing about any of these issues and many of them said it was the best wedding they have ever been to. The issues were things that only the 2 of us were aware of (with the exception of the loud music and bathroom baskets being picked clean).

Ugh I think I know who you're talking about. We didn't book with larkfield specifically because of him. He was just so condescending and rude throughout our entire appointment and we just couldn't imagine having to deal with him throughout the year leading up to our wedding. And you know what, we had expressed concern about the possibility of a sweet 16 going on and he flat out told us they no longer do them.
I'm so sorry you had a few bumps along the way, but at least your guests enjoyed themselves and you otherwise had an amazing day! Congrats to you and best of luck!

I posted this on another Larkfield forum, Its such a shame cause we were offered a great price and I really liked what the hall was going to look like, but the persons attitude made us rethink the whole decision!

Totally agree!! George is polite, professional, personable and takes care of everything we need! If it weren't for him we probably would've gone elsewhere!
