quick note for those of you setting a dress budget

quick note for those of you setting a dress budget

Hi - I just went for my first fitting and had tons of fun! It surprised me because I had a ton of second thoughts about it. Now they had to pry it out of my hands because I wanted to drive home in it and wear it to work the next day.

but when I went to make the 2nd fitting appointment and ended up with a bill for another $410. I almost fell down.

turns out that there may be some items that aren't included in your cap - it all depends on what they do, and I didn't think the slip would be another $100 - its just a peice of cloth.

Just remember when you buy your dress to factor in all the things that go with your dress - its sounds basic, but I really think I'm spending another $1000 between the veil, clips/tiara, bra (and matching underwear... because you have to get the set right ladies!) hose, shoes and fittings.

Luckily I over budgeted for the dress, but I wasn't expecting all the other things to add up so quickly. I made another deposit on the dress, and somehow - I still owe the same amount as I did when I walked in.

have fun on your dress hunt.

yes you do! Dont get me wrong - I had a blast at my fitting, but I didn't know a certain bustle is one price, but the one they show you when you are in the dress is more.

I just wanted to share, I didn't realize that would happen

Thanks for the tip. My friend's parents own a bridal salon and she told me how everything pans out. These salons can make up tp 80% profit on every dress they sell (in most cases) So if your dress costs $2000.. They are making $1600 profit not to mention all the extras. its insane.

Mine has an alternations cap- but the french bustle is not included

Mine is so big on me- I would hate to see the bill if there was no cap!

My dress budget was $1,000 or under. Unfortunatelly I saw a dress I LOOOOOOOOOVED hanging on the rack for $2600. I bought the sample for $1800 ( i think) to save some money, but after alterations I ended up spending more than double my budget So I just took moeny from other things..

I just had to have it and I dont regret it now.

ETA: My second favorite was only $800!!!!! But I had to have my favorite or else I know I would have second guessed etc..

This is why I am taking my dress out of the salon as soon as it comes in, asking for the $200 in alterations back, and taking it elsewhere!!!

A regular seamstress will not try to charge you $1000 in extra alterations!!! It's already bad enough they are charging me $150 for the hollow to hem!!
